I put a 3.08 differential in my 75 a few years ago, thinking I'd drop in a Richmond 5 speed one of these days to match it. Well, I found a good deal the other day on a standard ST10 with Z gear ratios so I jumped on it. The 3.42 1st gear will give me a 10.53 overall ratio in 1st, which is fairly close to the 9.76 stock overall ratio in 1st, but just a bit lower, which is good. High gear will be 3.08 versus the stock 3.70 for much better cruising and gas mileage.
The only concern I have is the torque applied to the transmission because most of the gear reduction is now taking place in the transmission. That will apply more torque to the transmission and drive shaft. I spun the center out of a stock clutch with this engine a couple years ago, but have had no problems since going to a Centerforce Stage II. I'm hoping this ST10 will handle the torque. What do you think?
