Z06 Intake

Has anyone installed 01-20 Z06 intake on there 97-00 vette? The performance claims are 12 rwhp +10 foot pounds of torque any "seat of the paints feel with the new intake?" In addition looking for an aftermarket white ball (97-02 Hurst/B&M etc). with 6 speed logo whitch will fit a stock/aftermarket shifter.

I have heard the same claims but I don't know of anyone who has done it yet. Would be interesting to find out though.

HI there,
First, the intake was engineered to be used with the revised camshaft available in the 01 model year, and newer.
LS1 and LS6 are both the same intake, for the 01 and newer model year, even the 405 horse version.
Claims, are really not applicable here, as there are more facts than meets the eyes..
The longer runner length, increases intake air velocity, during low rpms, and your midrange. This, in conjunction with the camshaft, yields better torque and power.
When performing this mod, I usually recommend a 80mm throttle body when doing this. You are really making better throttle response with this mod. That is what you are doing, if you are looking for numbers, you may be disappointed.
Having done many, power gains are negligable, up to 20 rwhp.
Personally, testing tolerances on the dyno can attribute this gain.
I hope this helps, and the mod will set no codes if performed correctly.

Thanks for the heads-up on the throttle body, I am also considering 1.8 rocker arms (will I need different valve covers?). The rumor mill states an increase of .35 inches on LIFT ONLY using the 1.8 vs 1.7. The revised intake could explain 01-02 torque increase (375 ft.pds) over the 97-00. Thanks for the info I will let you know how the mods turned out.

Yav, I just recently (after c4c5 specialist's recomendation) installed the ZO6 intake lid on my 99 with the K&N filter and yes I did feel a difference. I also cut out the screen in the MAF which I was told on the new ZO6 does not come anymore. The car does give me more kick, especially in the low, mid rpm range. I dont know how many more pony's it actually is but it's a cheap way to get a little more ooomph out of the car. I think c4c5 is right however, a 80mm throttle body would be choice. Oh, I also changed the power coupler that sit in front of the throttle body, supposedly smoothens out the flow, they say the factory one causes turbulence, and it's also cheap...

c4c5specialist. Who would you recommend to do the mod? Dealer? And how would you be able to know if they do it correctly because just because it is a dealer does not mean they will know exactly what they are doing. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
As with any mod, I recommend that you talk to fellow Corvette owners that have had successful service performed.
Now, if that does not yield anything, consult your local motor vehicle department. They will, at least, be able to tell you if any DMV complaints have been filed against the repair shop in question, and what they think of them.
I only take customers on referral, as this weeds out undesirable customers, and trolls that attempt to discredit.
I talk with each customer individually, as my interaction with the customer is critical before I agree to perform service work on their vehicles. I will NOT service any customer that I am NOT totally comfortable with.
This would also apply to customers, looking for a reputable repair facility.

If your talking about the ZO6 air intake and removal of the screen
you can do it yourself in fifteen minutes. It's really simple to do.
Just open the hood and start at the throttle body by removing the clamp that holds it. Then go directly to the airbox and remove the filter. Then remove the three lines that attach to the intake:
MAF, the black one that attached to the filter and the one up by the throttle body. You are better off just taking the intake assembly out of the car and working on it . After that just snap the filter lid out, as it comes off by hand. What I did is after the intake is out you can go to the front of the car and PUSH it out.
Then remove the grommets. Make sure the new lid has the grommets on them as it comes with it from factory. You will need an allen type wrench/screwdriver to disconnect the MAF housings, there are four screws. When you get the housings off be careful not to touch the MAF wires. The screen will come off by just pushing it out with your fingers...at least mine did. You may have to cut around the circumference of it, but it will come out easy.
Put it all back together. Place your new lid in place where the old one was. Reinstall the intake....that's it.
Don't forget to put the lines back in place, if I can do it, anybody can......

WOT you need to do, (is anyone listening/looks over shoulder), is find as many manifolds as you can. Then bench flow the best one and dump the rest is you found the best.

I think it was more your screen restriction. The air no matter watt is going to glow that resistor no matter what air speed so have at that screen is a restrictor. That is an aero helper when removed and that too is a seat of the pants will show you that one mod removed is smoother ride.

Of course, there is no code even is just a quicker moving air molecule over the same sensor as if you WOT the throttle and really made the telemetry move is same speed is all about how fast air enters time 360 degrees.

Whatever comes next is a new air pattern/as opposed to an installed (screen) in that air pattern.
