Z06 Markup...unbelievable!

Self1, congrats on your C6 but please don't knock the rest of us who dream of sitting behind our new Z06's. It just shows the true desire and support of this countries oldest and best sports car by myself and maybe 3500 others this year who can't wait to have one. Whether we pay msrp or over this car is truly worth every dime and until you have been behind the wheel of one, please allow us our dreams.

I would not want to knock anyone aspiring to buy, currently purchasing, or already owning a Z06!

In fact, I consider myself still to be a potential eventual owner of one. I simply shared my own personal thinking about whether it makes sense for me to actually go through with a purchase, now that I have a C6.

I just re-read my post, and can't figure how anyone would find a 'knock' in there, but if you took offense at something, please accept my appology for whatever slight you may have inferred -- no disrespect meant to anyone, or to the car itself.

I did point out that cost of maintenance will be higher. Is that what the issue was? Because simply stating that the larger tires will cost more is not a 'knock' in my way of thinking -- I don't think actual facts are 'knocks', and hopefully, anyone contemplating purchasing a Z06 is indeed considering the eventual need to replace those six individual brake pads per wheel, and any other unique items. I came from having a Porsche and the price of admission means you have to be ready for the need to replace wear parts, too.

I also mentioned it was louder, but again, I claim refuge under the factual accuracy clause <laugh>

If you are perhaps reffering to my prior stated opinions regarding dealers attempting to get thousands over MSRP via various means, I'm afraid I can't retract my heartfelt stake on that particular point, so we are just going to have to agree to disagree, hopefully without being disagreeable...

To avoid offending sensibilities further, I will be careful not to post any more of my C6-related meanderings here, I'll reserve them for the C6 section, where they should be. (Considering the title of the thread, I would not think too many easily bruised folks would have gotten this far along.)

Cheers!

I think it's incredibly short sighted of those dealers to gouge like they do. Why? Because someone is going to want to buy that Z06 but get turned off by the gouging. But that's not where the dealership loses because they will sell that Z06. They lose when the time comes for the consumers to buy the passenger cars, trucks and vans. Why should they go back to that dealership that tried to gouge them?

Why should they buy their cars and trucks from a place that wanted to charge them $30K over for a car?

I think I saw some eBay ads where they had bidding for what you would pay over MSRP. :eyerole

I saw an e-bay ad for auction price plus MSRP by Brian Leith at Jim Butler Chev in St. Louis, MO recently. I exchanged e-mails with Brian and he assured me that he screws his customers every chance he gets. Nice guy--NOT!
I really like my salesman at Kerbeck--call Harry and tell him Gersh sent you.

Self1 I apologize for coming across so harsh. This my dream car and am very hyped up about its delivery. I too went back and read your posts and think I took them the wrong way. Please excuse my comments and again congrats on a fabulous car and I am glad we could get you away from Porshe.

Hey, no problem at all! Glad to be on the good foot again (as James Brown might say)! I love cars, I love to talk about cars, I love to work on cars, and yes, I even love to b***h about cars, too, so sometimes I might get confused as a being negative, when what I really want to be is honest, open, and learning!

Peace!

As to the reply about it being short-sighted to gouge, I think the poster is accurate -- but that seems kind of the way the sales game is played; the dealers themselves may talk about long-term relationships and customer satisfaction, but the individual salesmen (and sales managers) seem to live very liquid lives -- the job turnover is super quick from what I have seen, so it fosters a 'get it while you can' mentality.... all IMHO, of course.

as much as we all hate to say it - it all comes down to supply vs demand - unfortunately some of the folks with money will just pay anything to be the first one on the block with the new toy - just means those of us who don't have as many shekels need to be more diligent and find someone to sell us what we want at a price that we want

FYI - have a Z06 deposit at MSRP with Maxie-Price and hoping to know in early January when my car will actually be "ordered"

Did you read the Maxie Price thread over on Corvette Forum? I haven't read the whole thing but they were saying that it was pretty shady.

what do you mean by "pretty shady"? have no reason personally to think anything is remiss - have exchanged many emails with Monica over the years, so......I was told I was on the list at a certain number, and that they were allocated so many cars through the end of the year, and that they had "placed so many orders" - I was also told that at the beginning of the new year, she would update where I was as far as being able to actually "place the order"

It was something about a list that they had and how they by passed the list or something like that. I can't remember it very well, it's been a few weeks since I peeked at it.

Have you seen it?

you have to read one of the last posts to the thread where Monica responded to the entire thread - most of the thread total BS, like I tried to kindly state

Living 20 miles from Maxie Price and knowing someone who bought an 04 Vette and an 04 tahoe I agree that the thread is bs.

ps to c5 vetter: I'd be happy to pick the car up for you....;LOL

There are a bunch of Zs at my dealer here in Jersey. They are going for $15k over sticker. Other dealers are actually buying them from this guy and I assume selling for more. I can't pay $85k for a Vette. I'll take my 500 horse Z51 and be able to eat lunch.

I was in the auto park in Chantilly, Virginia earlier this week and noticed a new silver Z06 in the showroom of the Jaguar/Land Rover dealer. I had to stop and check it out. It turns out that someone traded a 06 Z06 with 400 miles in on a new Land Rover. They have it sitting on the floor and are asking $79,900. I know they are hard to get, but who in there right mind would pay 80k for what is now a used Z06?? I talked to the salesman for a few minutes and he really thinks that they will be able to sell it for that. I can't imagine what the original owner lost on his short ownership of this car, but being one of the first Z06's on the road in this area I figure he must have really lost a bundle on that transaction. And what would have made him doing something like that...mor money than he know what to do with?? Or a very unhappy wife??
