It's a long time not to advertised your self proclaimed halo car. The prancing horse from Maranello advertises, and they are sold out two years out. This creates the right kind of ongoing product buzz. I can't think of another model that isn't advertised at least semi-regularly. Corvette sales are down 50% -66% from the C6 highs, but maybe nobody noticed.;squint:

Superbowl, Rose-bowl, World Series appearances, more Vette corrals around the country, more Vette pace cars, a Vette in the background of all performance-related ads, Schwartenegger's, Brad Pitt's, Michelle Obama's Vette, military Vette, Tuna's Vette

Most anything to get easy exposure.

How do we forward truly feasible ideas from here to GM?

The last Corvette ad campaign was years ago - well before the bailout. BTW the ad money SHOULD go to the bread and butter cars that will save GM.

I'm close to pulling the trigger if they would just come down a bit more. I bet a lot of other are too! Additonally, I hate to think what they would offer me for my for my 2000 as a trade!!

Why in the world would you trade your Corvette in????? The majority of Corvette owners love and pamper their cars so much. These have to be some of the best used cars available. So, you would be willing to sell it for a wholesale price?? I know it's a bit of trouble to sell a car yourself but it's well worth it in the end when all the figures are in. I have owned over 80 cars in my lifetime and I have bought and sold each one. I have never traded a car to a dealer or anybody else.
I'm a firm believer in the old adage; Buy low and sell high.
You can't do that when you're selling one item at wholesale.

My cousin in the UK traded his '07 C6 in for a new Camaro SS. He had the 3rd one registered in the country. Had it for two months and is now selling it. He hates it. Said to him it was like driving a big sedan with terrible outward visibilty.

They didn't with Oldsmobile, Saturn or Pontiac. Heck, they bailed out of the deal with Penske when they learned that he planned to re-badge Chinese cars as Saturns. Government Motors will just drop Crovette it from the lineup like it did with the XLR.

I agree with you 100%. I'm not even going to plan to sell my 01. I like it too much. I won't get another Vette until I can afford to keep 2.

I thought ( I guess wrongly) it was Penske that bailed out of the Saturn deal. In any regard, you may be right about just letting Corvette die. It is a politically incorrect car, tends to be pruchased by rich middle age white guys hnoes ... can't have that. Happy New Year!!

GM didn't bail out of the Penske deal - Penske did. He did it when Renault/Nissan backed out of supplying him with product for Saturn.

The answer is simple, back in 1990 when I was selling Chevrolets, they put on rebates of up to $6,000.00, it was a sliding scale type rebate starting at 3k and going up ,the more corvettes a dealer sold the bigger the rebate became, we had a small dealership and I started humping to get to the 6k rebate level, when we hit that level I bought a new 90' for 6k under invoice and on top of that it was a R9G World Challange car. With the profit margins built in to Corvette there is no reason for them not to do the same thing again.

I believe he also said we'd hang ourselves with our own rope, which is exactly what's happening - destroyed from within, intentially. I wish Americans would do the research.
As for the Vette, I don't think GM will offload it, too much halo to let go of. It might wind up down to a basic model or something but I don't think it will be phased out. Hib seems to have more infm'n on it. Thanks for those updates!

We picked up our new Equinox yesterday. There were dozens of new Vettes on the lot, and waiting lists for Camaros and Equinoxes. The downturn has hit the Vette marketplace hard.

Funny, both of those models are made in Canada. The Camaro in Oshawa and the Equinox in St. Thomas.

If we are so blessed that health care & cap/trade fails and someone proposes some tax reduction, you would see the economy explode like the Reagan years. Only then will the debt be controlled and we will head off massive (post war germany style) inflation.

It would seem it takes a Democrat to keep the National Debt under control.

I'm from the UK and say look at our car industry over the last 10 years,
yours will be the same soon. We gladly give tax breaks to Nissan to build factories in England to compete unfairly with our own car builders.

The Chinks will come into America and buy your car industry for peanuts, ship out all the panel presses and engine moulds to China and then sell their cheapo versions back to you. Sure, some of you will say that their quality is improving but I say they are good at sweet and sour chicken and knock off consumer goods... period.

For f*cks sake, when they made the bid for Hummer the first thing they said was they wanted to put a 4 cylinder diesel in the thing for fuel efficiency!

I think it is disgusting that we (not me though) buy GM made Chinese, Japanese and Korean vehicles built by people on the poverty line and depriving Americans of their jobs. We all want a bargain but at what price to our fellow man?

As for China, we are OWNED by them. They can shut down most of the west's economys, including ours, in a heart beat.

The Chinese government is programmed entirely differently to the west and they don't give a damn about us.
