Question: Pre- filter?

Hi, should I still be using the grey bubblefoam pre filter on my L98 now i'm using a K&N filter? Thanks for any advice on this.

Wish I knew the type of K&N...
some require an oil mist, while others do not.
I'd say if your normal conditions are very dusty,. dirt roads, then use the foam insert as well. If its more city driving in semi clean air then the K&N will probably be ok. You might want to let someone look at it to see if it does need to be misted with the K&N oil spray. If so, just a mist, not saturated or wet. The MAF sensor really hates it when wet oil comes thru...:chuckle

I used advanced earch "l98 air filter"

I've run K&N for many years, on lots of cars and now prefer paper and changing them.

I was looking for a particularly well written and researched thread on this topic using the search feature, but did not go through all of the results. Opinions are not in short supply on many equipment topics but I prefer hard-to-find data, as that thread contains.

Good searching!

My use of K&Ns comes with restrictions and limitations...

In the city, I like the K&N because its economical and easy to maintain. Yeah, in this city you can see the air, but its not gritty...just the haze of chemicals and redneck BS...
A K&N thats been oil-misted will clog up in a day when driving in certain conditions that are considered 'normal' in the dessert SW.

Out in the Az dessert, I'd rather have the paper filter just because its a finer screen. It might restrict a tiny bit, but when driving thru dust storms and blowing clouds of sand you are'nt concerned about the .05% performance loss from your air filter...

I think the question in the OP was about "pre-filters".

The answer is:
You don't need a pre-filter on a street-driven Corvette.

I only drive in town and on the motorway so i'll stick with the dry k&n without the pre-filter and check for any dirt on a regular basis. Thanks for the advice fellas:).
