I think Hib should learn table manners.[/quote]
Here here my friend, like it has been stated, Jesse would bend over backwards to help a fellow Vetter, and not always have his hand stuck out. He's straight up, and I value his friendship...:beer

Oh, for crissakes. What a bunch of children!

I never said anything personal about GMJunkie, I just said that the idea that you can repair a binding or inconsistent power assist with a pour-in additive is a ridiculous idea.

I realize that GMJunkie has quite a flock here on the CAC and might be one of the best service techs active on this site, but that still doesn't negate the fact that, based on the symptoms listed in the first post, pouring in some Lucas concotion is not going to repair that power steering.

As for Lucas Oil....man...you talk about a product that is well-marketed and over-hyped. For gosh sakes, people, if you are using the correct lubricants or fluids and you properly maintain the systems in which they are in, you don't need pour-in additives, Lucas or otherwise.

If you want to read more about the effectiveness of such products, take a look at the "Bob is the Oil Guy" site. I'll admit the name is silly, but that web site is one of the better resources on the web about engine oils and other lubricants. Specfically, see this page covering Lucas "Oil Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer": http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

The idea that Lucas uses the term "Stablizer" in the brand name is hilarous.

I wouldn't add Lucas to the lubricants or fluids in any car I own.
And I guess you've never heard of Marvel Mystery Oil? Was around when my granddad added it to his tractor, the one he traded his two mules in on... by the way, it's a Farmall Super A and is still running... after forty plus years...:D

Pissing contest!!!

Speaking of fluids, has anyone tried urine?? It's a great fluid for the pissing contest this thread has become. Listen guys, I do a bunch of my own work but in the big scheme of all that is C4 I don't know sh-t! I always value the opinions / advice of all our experts. But if you piss them off and they go to another web site we're all gonna be S-O-L :nono:nono

I second this post. We're here to help each other, not pick on peoples spelling, manners or advice. If you don't like what someone says/advises, keep asking until you find advice you like. Both Junk and Hib have forgotten more than most of us will ever know. If we turn into a bunch of petty flamers, we're no better than that "other" Vette site.
My 2 cents worth....

we are all here for 1 thing to help each other out that is it and a common intrest:eyerole I think we all need a group hug ;shrug Steve

Ok ... now, after I buy some Redlucasline superslickum power steering fluid. :rotfl

How do I flush it through as mentioned previously ?

Actually, I've used "Marvel Mystery Oil" to lubricate air tools, but that's about all.

Sometimes you'll find power steering flushing and bleeding instructions in the FSM.

agreed, and I have one of those.

However, the fsm doesn't give tips on
how to not smash my knuckles and break things :upthumbs

It's nice to get tips from someone who has done the flushing in the driveway. :thumb

I’ve done the fluid change. What the FSM doesn’t mention is that the return line has been clamped to the nipple on the bottom of the reservoir for 12 years and it is fused in place! If you try to “wiggle” it loose, you stand a 50/50 chance of breaking off the nipple and/or cracking the reservoir. You might try this; Remove the clamp on the return line nipple and cut the line off below the nipple (about ¾”from the top of the hose)) then carefully slice the hose section remaining on the nipple in several places and peel it away (be careful to cut only the hose, don’t go too deep or you'll slice the plastic nipple). There’s plenty of return line left to re-attach and clamp after fluid change.

I don't know if this should be recommended or not :eek

Every 2 years I use a Baster to suck out as much fluid from the PS Pump as possible, then replace it. It doesn't completely drain the PS System. I figure over the course of time I eventually get it all removed :D

I don't know how much is left in the System once I've sucked out fluid from the PS Pump Resevoir ;shrug Last year I used Lucas and the little leak around the Control Valve Stopped and the PS seems as good if not better than before ;)
(THANKS Jesse ;) )

That's what I do also, Yoda. Usually when I service the Vette's, which is once a year since I don't put many miles on them, Their both garaged and covered until I get the urge.

Well...I changed my steering fluid in the garage and neither smashed knuckles or broke anything--well, at least not any pwr. steering parts. I can't understand how doing it in the garage saved any knuckles or broken parts becuase, in there, being closer to the ice box, it takes a shorter walk to get a beer.:beer

Yeah but if there is a place to smash my knuckles .. I'll do it. Heck, I broke my toe on the floor jack just walking across the room. :boogie

Yeah, my buddies loved that one.

I have a old 85 Ford Diesel pickup with over 300,000 miles on it and the power steering was getting hard to turn.
I added the Lucas PS oil and it fixed it.
I normally don't use additives but this stuff works.

Ok.
I give in to the mentality here.

Forget what I said about proper maintenance and repair procedures. Lucas Oil products can take the place of all that.

I mean....why should maintenance of Corvette power steering be any different than a rusted-out, 85 Ford pickup with 300,000 miles on it.

I'm hauling my rollaway to the scrap yard and buying five cases of Lucas Oil additives.
