Do these calipers suppose to be loos (ish) I have a clicking sound everytime i press the brake pedal and can see that the calipers mooves slightly :ugh

Well... I have the same noise and I did some research and asked some questions:

It seems that the brake pads need anti-rattle clips so they dont make that noise.

Let me know if you find out something different!:cool

If the calipers are moving there's a couple things to check. At the bottom of each caliper is a pin held in place by a c-clip. Make sure the pin and c-clip are there and that the pin is not bent or broken. Those should be replaced from time to time and can be bought a reasonable price.

The caliper bolts are on the back side of the calipers. If the calipers have never been removed they should be good and tight as they're installed from the factory with a lock-tite type substance and torqued down pretty good. If the calipers have been removed at some point, it might be a good idea to check the torque on them to make sure they were installed correctly. Although I must say, if those things are loose somebody was negligent in installing them and it's an extremely dangerous situation.

Lastly, it could be needing new brake pads or a caliper rebuild.

Starting in 1984, Corvettes have used "floating caliper" brakes. If you push the pedal with the engine off, you may hear a clicking noise. Also, the calipers will appear to move slightly on their mounting pins.

If you do hear noise on application, while some clicking is expected, I'd also check to make sure the antirattle springs discussed earlier are installed. I'd compare your brakes to diagrams in the factory service manual.

The calipers never been removed and are factory installed. I ordered two pins and C clips as i have new brake pads in the garage waiting for winter to com. My winter project is new Bilstein shocks round bout, new brake pads round bout, stainless steel brake hoses and a new 2 din stereo/navigation/tv/DVD system from Pioneer :) All in the garage waiting exsept from those two pins and clips. Never thought about them before you mentioned them.

Thanks,
Steve

Anti Rattle clips

The idea is all well and good, but in teh FACTORY manual for my 88, nowhere in teh brake section does it show or tell how to install those clips. My brakes rattle all the time and even the Chevy dealer says its normal. So, if anyone knows how to install those or can tell me where to get them. I think I would like to see if I can make the rattle go away!!

THANKS!! :w :D
