    Greenwood Daytona..Any news??

If you haven't already, check out http://www.greenwoodcorvettes.com/ for some info... Looks like no 'official' Daytonas were done for 1979 by Greenwood. //Pancho

    T5 transmission

Hmmmmm. You ready for a little story? When it came time to decide what to do with the turbo 350 trans in my '76 a few years ago, I decided I'd really like to switch to a manual. I did a lot of research, and while the T-5's had a bad reputation I decided if cared for and driven 'not too hard'...

    timing chain install

Jack -- Thanks for the info on the balancers. I was aware there were differences but not how much! The one I put on I didn't have a part number for, but it was one I had bought some time ago for the '76 (so same flavor, at least). With the heads off I did verify 0° indicated with #1 at TDC...

Re and Re headliners from T-Tops?

Not sure about 'solid' T-Tops on the '79s (ours has glass tops) -- by 'bonding disc' do you mean a sort of heavy-duty velcro disc?

    timing chain install

OK, now I understand... I guess since I always set it up 'dot to dot' I assumed that was TDC on #1, but never really paid attention to where the pistons were at the time. A few weekends ago I changed the cam / lifters / pushrods and timing chain in my '79 L48 (one of the intake lobes was...

    timing chain install

Huh? Lining up the marks (6:00 on cam, 12:00 on crank) is correct, but this is for #1 TDC, no ?

    Fuel Pump R&R 76 vette

One other consideration, but maybe in my case it was because the system sat 'open' for a couple weeks during some engine work..... I lost the prime between the tank and the pump, and no amount of cranking would get it back. Compressed air (regulated down to ~1 PSI or so) down the fuel filler...

    '82 Cross-fire running open loop

I don't thing the early 80's ECUs had memory codes like the OBD-II systems since '96; the only time you get codes in the older systems is when the check engine light is on. You might also want to do some google searches on cross-fire injection system, to see what others have found. Good luck...

    '82 Cross-fire running open loop

I'd check for other stuff before blaming the ECU; Did this surging just start all of a sudden, or has it happened gradually? Did it start after some other work was done? Does it 'always' run good when in closed loop, and 'always' bad when it's in open loop? Do you remember seeing...

    '82 Cross-fire running open loop

Sounds to me like you might still have a little vacuum leak..... The low O2 voltage indicates a lean condition, but going open-loop at idle is normal since there's not enough exhaust flow to keep the sensor heated up. The O2 should really only be 'believed' when it's warmed up and probably that...

    Emissions help????

From what I remember..... All 76's (+ other years, but let's limit this to '76 for now) sold in CA had AIR pumps -- whether L48 or L82. Federal L-82's also had AIR pumps in 76. But Federal L-48's did not. I have a 76, Federal L-48. Back when I lived in California I was able to pass their...

    rearend

You could try: http://www.700r4.com/speedoCalc/speedocalc.shtml which will at least get your drive-to-driven ratios; but whether or not the correct sets are available for your transmission would be a question for a GM parts department.... /Pancho

    Headlamps for my '71

The headlamps themselves are standard sealed beams available at any auto parts store (...well, most any... with most newer cars going to replaceable halogen capsules, the sealed beams are getting harder to find). It probably just needs a new sealed beam; if the existing ones are not halogen...

    carb secondaries not kicking in

I'm assuming this is a Quadrajet.... Follow the secondary butterfly shaft out the passenger side of the carb; there's a little interlock arm that will prevent opening of the secondaries until the choke is 'released' -- maybe the choke wasn't warmed up enough yet, or that interlock is sticking...
