I think if we pull the body off your 68 this weekend we'll have a lot more pictures to share! I'm free on Saturday. I bet we could get a bunch more people to show up and help you get that resto started.

Thanks! I can't wait to see the paint on the hood itself. I was going to do stripes but this paint changes so much with each turn or curve I'm thinking it will highlite the curves of the hood just fine all by itself.
I have to force myself not to stop at the shop every day.
A little taste of color
The car is moving along. Here's a few of the latest pics of the color sprayed on the back of the doors. The digital camera really doesn't do the color justice. It's darker than it comes out here. The paint is really sticky wet looking like a freshly licked lollipop. In...
Thanks. The hood was what started this all. My wife bought it for me last Christmas. I think it was from Mid America. I wanted an L88 hood so I could upgrade the engine and have enough room to fit a higher intake manifold. When I found out how much it was going to cost to paint the car I...
The original color was Steel Cities Gray. The car was a one owner when I bought it. He repainted it sometime several years before I got it and he kept it the original color. However, the paint wasn't sprayed very well, the flakes were clumpy, there were a lot of runs in it, there was...
John,
The Steel Cities Gray that was on there was a repaint of the original color and had too much green tint in it when compared to original cars.
I liked the color when I first bought the car but it kind of lost it's appeal over the last couple of years. I think the fact the the paint...
The car is making progress. I'm writing this post to document the paint progress. 2 weeks down 6 weeks to go.
The body was in fantastic shape under the paint. No previous repairs or wreck damage. The only items of any significance were the two holes on the rear quarter panels where the...
Thanks. The car will be Candy Apple Blue (like anodized aluminum fittings with a candy coat and metalic flake). I was thinking of a silver metalic stripe.
The idea would be for the stripe to start with the L88 scoop and work it's way to the back of the car and down between the tail lights...
Yeah these guys do amazing work. If I were to have them do the car I'd bring the whole car to him after it was blue and let him go to town with blue flames. Wish I had the cash. That's not a cheap job by any means.
Very cool Vette though.
I've tried the photocopy/black and white print...
Beautiful! Congratulations. My first Vette 15 years ago was a 78 PC. I met my wife right after I bought it ;). I kick myself for ever selling it. I've got to dig for my old paperwork. I'd love to have my first one back.
As you know from my other post about stripes the 1971 Convertible is at the paint shop. Now is the time for body mods.
I hate the solid antennae on the car. :puke I know I can put an electric antennae on instead but I was thinking of just glassing in the hole and putting some kind of remote...
I like the pin stripe. If fact it could be the perfect compromise. It highlights the lines of the scoop without having to pass all the way to the back.
Bossvette,
Is your idea to change the basecoat from the silver to a gold where I want the stripe and then spray the blue topcoat over the...
The car goes to paint Saturday! After 10 months of this frame off restoration she's ready for color. The color has been picked and I'm solid on the choice. It will be Candy Blue over Cosmic Stardust (silver metalic) basecoat. This is a color from DuPont but the painter is going to use House of...
I'm not sure about your motor but my motor with Vortec heads calls for 38 degrees total timing and the Lars documents call for 36. The initial timing at 20 seems high to me. I was concerned with the 18 initial that I have.
It seems simple enough to set the timing but trust me from my...
Actually, the problem was my fault. The engine builder sent the motor out with stamped covers that did not rub but were not attractive so I put the GM Crinkle finish covers on. They are tall but not wide enough. The solution is to put the stamped steel covers that came with the motor back on...
The valve covers were from Jegs. I don't have the part number handy right now but I think they were $125. If you have less than 1.6:1 rocker ratio they should fit. They're center bolt covers. The rub on the inside isn't that bad. I've only run the motor in the driveway and up and down the...
For those of you who have followed my previous post regarding tuning my new crate motor http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89393 thank you for all of your advice.
Today I experienced the best customer service ever from a vendor. The owner of the factory that produces...
Bad news....
The lifter noise is back! I paid a mechanic that works on race motors to look at it today. He checked the lash and set it. Motor continued clacking like heck still. Pulled the covers the preload was gone.
He told me the valvetrain is toast. He's not sure if it's the cam or...
