Thanks. Your explanation makes sense. I appreciate the confirmation. I'll tape off the yellow wire. The interesting thing is the wire harness guys connected the yellow wire to the HEI along with the red. I guess they just wanted to keep all the original wires in there in case I ever wanted...
Just went outside to check the wiring again. The yellow coil wire is part of the harness and appears to be part of the plug the wiring guys put together for me for the HEI. So I'm pretty sure it needs to connect to something. I know it only provides voltage during cranking. Does and HEI...
Getting closer to dropping the body on. Just installed a new ProForm mini/high torque starter on the crate motor. The instructions were really weak and the online instructions match what came in the box.
The selenoid had only 2 places to attach wires. One large terminal for the battery and...
Drew,
Thanks. I cut the old dust cover and installed this weekend. The answer is 1/2 of an inch. I also had to cut a rectangular piece out to allow it to fit the new mini starter.

I've got the same headers coming from Jet-Hot. They're backordered and should be in next week. It's holding me up from putting the body back on the frame but it's worth the wait not to have to crawl under the car to get them in there.
I'm assuming it's the 4 inch spiral baffle I need to...
Drew,
Thanks. Cutting it was my backup plan. I guess it's the primary plan now. Any hints of how much needs to come off? The bellhousing is bolted to the engine now and it would be good to have an educated guess of how much to cut so I don't have to go back and forth too many times. I'm...
Anyone converting to a crate motor with a one piece rear main seal... Where did you get a replacement dust cover/inspection plate to cover the bottom half of the bell housing for a 4 speed. The cover I have for the old 2 piece seal doesn't fit. I'm thinking of cutting it but was hoping there...
I've seen a few posts on the spiral muffler inserts for Hooker Sidepipes. I just ordered the headers and pipes from Jet Hot. I need to pick mufflers and I'm looking for feedback. If you're using the spiral mufflers and like them where did you buy them?
Thanks,

Got the 4 bolts out but had to remove the dash. Probably could have done it without removing the dash but it was still a pain with the dash out. The clip on the pin from the brake pedal isn't too hard to remove but was tricky to get back on. Use some needle nose pliers. The good news is...
Got the answer from M&H today. The orange wire was cut at the factory on AC cars. The black wire goes to the pigtail connector on the blower motor connected to the resistor.
I'm putting everything back together on the 71. The new wiring harness is great but I have a problem with the AC Blower Motor.
The AC wiring harness has a purple and black wire that goes to the fan. In addition, the engine harness has a Black and Orange wire that go to the same location. The...
I'm not sure on the 75 but the shroud on my 71 is a pain to put in due to A arm clearance. I'm going with electric fans so all I'll I have on the body is the radiator support and the cross member below it. This will make it quicker to bolt to the frame for me when I drop it.
Be careful...
I suspect it's a 305. Given where you live in Oregon the odds are pretty good that you have a California car and the owner didn't realize it wasn't a 350. I would think the 305 could have the same block as a 350 with only a change in bore and/or stroke. Good luck on the investigation.
I just bought a Speed Demon 650 with mechanical secondaries for my new motor. The tech line was medium helpful but they came up with the recommended carb after a lot of questions.
Several people mention shavings in the carb. How do you inspect the carb for shavings before you install? Where...
Thanks for the comment. There are a few reasons I want to do this:
1) I have the entire engine bay stripped, a new crate motor, and the entire dash out of the car right now. So if I'm going to do it nows the time.
2) Before I tore the whole car apart this year I already had to replace the...
Anyone know if an aftermarket 2 1/16 guage will fit? I priced replacement guages from a later model and the sending unit is almost as expensive as the entire kit with guage for the aftermarket units.
I'm in the process of putting the 71 back together and was wondering if I could change the mechanical oil pressure gauge to an electric gauge from a later C3. Will the gauge from a later C3 fit in the center console? What wiring would I have to do for the electric gauge? I'm assuming a...
I was wondering about the Zoops kit myself. I think you have the wrong alternator bracket. That looks like their inboard mount, on the Vette I think you need the outboard mount. Also you have the "short" water pump to worry about on the Vette. My problem is I have an old style AC Compressor...
I just got my crate motor for my 71 and it's time to put the accessories back on. I'd like to clean everything up a bit and I don't like the stock brackets especially since the alternator and AC bolt to the exhaust manifolds.
The car has the long style AC compressor and Power Steering. The new...
