Is there a big difference between '84 and '85 parts?

In particular, the brake booster....the booster failed on my '84 and I found one from an '85. Is there a difference in parts like this one?

    C-4 hood mounting

Seems like every time I open the hood lately, I've got something else to deal with; today, it's the passengers side hood hinge. I noticed that one of the bolts needed tightening and when I got close, it snapped off :mad So I reached into the oval opening in the hood from the drivers side to...

    Help! Starter woes

Last week I thought I had a bad battery. The starter was chattering like it wasn't getting enough current to it. This past Thursday it started making a grinding sound like the solenoid was missing it's mark on the flywheel. So before I got it down, a small 1/4-20 bolt fell down...I didn't pay it...

    Question: Air diverter question

Ok...so a 7 mile highway run to work tonight should have set it back, but it didn't. The 7 mile ride home was the same; it starts cold and straightens out after 5 minutes or so. I need to check the vacuum connections again and inspect the EGR and the EGR solenoid while I've got the air cleaner...

    Question: Air diverter question

I changed about 10 ft of vacuum lines last weekend and found a plastic line disconnected from the back of the front TB in the process. When I restarted the car, it was cold and sounded like it was missing a cylinder. It warmed up and ran alright after that...my MPG even came up a couple of miles...

    Seat belt light/switch question

I looked at the belt buckle this morning and I think the contacts (looks like 3) inside the buckle are bent so as to not make contact, especially the bottom 2. I'm going to try to jump out the buzzer and see what that does....too bad you can't find these parts anymore :(

    Seat belt light/switch question

So I had a few minutes before work to look at the belt buckle area but didn't see anything in the way of wires coming out of the base of the plastic covering/stiffener for the belt buckle. I guess I'll have to get under the carpet and see for sure; that will have to wait until the weekend. I...

    Seat belt light/switch question

Thanks boomdriver...I looked for a couple of hours yesterday and couldn't find anything anywhere. Sometimes the FSM is worth its weight in gold and other times, it's not worth lighting the BBQ with...:L EDIT: In my '84 FSM, 8B-2 talks about the seat belt warning system in depth, but no...

    Seat belt light/switch question

The FSB light came on over the weekend and never went out. Today I dug out the FSM and the electrical supplement trying to find the location of the seat belt switch to trace the constant on. There is a mention of the seat belt switch, but there are no pics or references to where it might be...

WOW!...I know how thrilled he will be; my two oldest children went in on my dream car and this has been the most exciting year of car driving in my life. That's how I'm enjoying my 'vette as well...fixing it while I drive it and enjoy it. :thumb :thumb BTW, welcome to CAC....:v

    best & worst vet 84-96

There may be problems with certain year C4's, but there is no bad year C4....If we didn't have problems in cars, we couldn't advance the technology or the styling....that's how we learn; from our mistakes.... :beer

Dimly lit SES light all the time

Boomdriver; It's normally lit at key on and then goes dim and stays on once the car is started. If I come to a sudden stop and the idle drops, it will come on for about 30 seconds (not long enough to store a code) and then go dim again. BTW, there are no codes stored.

Dimly lit SES light all the time

I just noticed the other day that the SES light is on, but it's not on "brightly" as it normally would look, but it's dim and on all the time. Does anyone have any ideas on which way to point me to? The FSM only shows an SES light on all the time flowchart but nothing like I'm experiencing...

    C7 article in AutoWeek

"GM design chief Ed Welburn has told Autoweek that the Stingray concept from the 2009 Detroit auto show will not be the C7. But many reports have suggested that the next Vette could get a split-window option." I guess it's a good thing, but some elements of the concept car would be nice...

    High Speed Setting on Heater

Check the hot (red) lead from the blower relay to 12V power. That's how high speed gets high speed, by bypassing the resistors through that wire for full speed from the blower. I just went through the same thing with my heater/blower. it seems that when they pulled the engine, they broke that...

    HIgh Pitched sound

Check the purge solenoid on the canister...when the purge valve doesn't function properly, it will not release pressure in the tank and it will make a whining sound....open the filler cap when its making that sound to verify it...it will release the pressure and stop.:thumb
