    Engine rebuild project

Hows it going guys? As the thread title says Im going to be doing an engine build for my 1980 vette. Im planning on pulling the motor mid-late fall once the good driving weather is gone, and I wanted to get a thread going to try to pick all of your brains! haha. I just wanted to get as much...

    Help with my current engine

Okay, so Ive owned my 1980 L82 for about 5years now... since I was 16. Over the years I have done a lot of restoration, but never got into the motor...mainly because of the price. The restoration I did was directed towards making it fun AND safe to drive, including major front and rear...

    Boston International Autoshow

Okay, I finally attended my first autoshow today and it was amazing. Of course when I first got there I made a bee-line to the huge Chevrolet section, and to my amazement.......................a 2009 ZR1 sat there waiting for me. Along side it was a base coupe, a Z06, and a base convertible...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

+1. John I think you were the one who recommended this to me about a year ago, its definitely a cool thing to have dskopp. I had found my original tank sticker up on the tank, but it was so weathered it was illegible. The invoice is a great reference for original RPOs and other interesting...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

Alright, so if the block was the only replacement part what does that do to the originality? If the heads, intake, and carb get me any points? Or does it not matter without the original block? Im just curious, because it will be good to know when it comes time to deciding wether or not to...

Freeze plugs.... I think Im in trouble....

Hmmm good to know. The only thing is it looks like theyre going to be tough to get at. Anybody here ever replace them with the motor still bolted into the car? Im thinking I may have to jack the motor up a little, or remove it because a couple look like theyre in tough spots.

    Help with Numbers Matching!

Yah Im already certain that it was an L82 originally, judging by the 6 in the VIN. Now I know the block isnt original, but Im curious to see if the heads are still from the L82. Im thinking they might be, because the rest of the engine was made to look like the original L82. Maybe someone along...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

The engine is getting to the point where its time for a rebuild. I had been debating on wether or not to rebuild it and put it back in or get a crate. However, knowing its not original I dont really see a reason to spend the money and time rebuilding it. I ve been looking at 383 strokers for...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. That means this engine came from St. Catherine's in Ontario Canada! This engine is definitely coming out. Im curious now to see what heads and intake manifold are on it, because it has a 4bbl Rochester like the L82, so Im curious to see what the heads and...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

    Help with Numbers Matching!

Thanks for the help tom. As I have recently suspected, after some investigation, the engine is probably not original. I bought the car in rough shape 4yrs ago when I was 16 and began restoring it. I bought the car from a Boston cop who got it through the dept. after it was recovered stolen...

Freeze plugs.... I think Im in trouble....

Right... they allow the water to expand without cracking the block. I thought I had heard somewhere along the way that when they pop its a bad sign, good to know they are replacable. Thanks for your input.

Freeze plugs.... I think Im in trouble....

I think I may have a problem. Ive recently noticed coolant in small puddles under my car. After some investigation Ive narrowed it down to what appears to be 2 freeze plugs leaking, 1 at the front left of the block and the other in the middle of the right side just above the starter. Leaking...

    Help with Numbers Matching!

Ok, as you can tell by my name, I own a 1980 L82 Corvette. I have a small coolant leak which may be the intake manifold, so I removed the AIR pump today to get a better look. In the process, I stumbled across a stamped code on a pad in front of the Passenger side head. The code reads: K04 02...

    Motor Installation

Alright Im down to choosing between two motors. I can get one wholesale, but Im leaning towards the one that I cant get wholesale. Its made by Blueprint engines. Heres the stats on it: <P> Block: * 4-bolt main block * Passenger side dipstick * Square and parallel decked * Align-honed main...

Tell us all where you bought your C3

Okay....well I bought my 1980 L82 from my father a few years after he had purchased it. He rarely used it when he owned it, so I talked him into selling it to me. I went with him when he bought it, so I know most of the story behind the car. My father worked at a Chevy dealership. There was...

    rear speakers

Yah in the picture they are covering the compartments, but the box can slide far enough back as to where it doesnt block them. Its not very heavy. I do want to scale it down the, and make something integrated with the interior. The current box was made to drop straight down into the back of...
