    battery will not hold charge

Make certain to charge your battery back up to 12.6-12.8 volts with an external charger. If you jump start the car with another battery and then rely on the pretty weak Corvette alternator to charge your discharged battery while driving, you run a pretty good risk of harming the alternator...

Trailer/Hauler (Callaway) Anyone have experience w/ these?

Hodges Car Hauler in Scottsdale Auction Scottsdale is about 6-7 hours away from San Diego; 4-5 if by Callaway... Since the auction in Scottsdale is not until late January, I am figuring that bad weather will set into the Phila. area by then, causing Eric to ditch out of there and relocate to...

    Magnetic Drain Plug

My ZR1 pan is aluminum, so I don't think anything short of electronic supermagnets will stick to that and the Corvette alternator if definitely not up to that task. That's why I was asking about the epoxy attachment. I have been using some disk drive magnets on oil filters for years. Might...

    Magnetic Drain Plug

Disk drive magnets were what I planned to use on the drain plug. I am guessing that you epoxied the disk drive magnet inside the oil pan. Is that correct? If you attached the disk drive magnet to the outside of the oil pan, were you able to verify a good magnetic field through the pan (either...

    Magnetic Drain Plug

ZR1 Drain Plug Eric, We don't have much in the way of warehouse parts stores here in San Diego. Pep Boys is about the closest thing and they had nothing, along with several other stores that I checked. The ZR1 drain plug measures .6 inches in diameter (about 15mm), with 20 threads per inch...

    Magnetic Drain Plug

Most of my cars have magnetic oil drain plugs in them. This is one of those small items that can't hurt you and just might be a big help if it traps some metallic particles and alerts you to a small problem (before it becomes a big problem). So when I removed the break-in Valvoline 30 wt oil...

Trailer/Hauler (Callaway) Anyone have experience w/ these?

Eric, Why don't you ditch out of Philadelphia before the cold sets in and come west to Reno/Lake Tahoe or Las Vegas? I will leave Fire City (San Diego) and go to Reno/Lake Tahoe. Then we can share a Hodges Hauler in good style and be free of rust, humidity, high traffic, city gangs, drug...

Trailer/Hauler (Callaway) Anyone have experience w/ these?

Nice, but a little spendy. If my understanding is correct, the mobile garage option adds about $22K to the price of a used diesel dually ($18-23K). Is that correct? I could get a pretty nice daily driver TT for quite a bit less...

Trailer/Hauler (Callaway) Anyone have experience w/ these?

Hey, that second model looks like a good trick approach for another garage when the wife has absolutely prohibited the required construction process. It could also double as a spare bedroom... Does anyone know what prices might be on the Hodges truck/garage combination? It looks pretty slick.

Oil filter removal without removing oil?

Sure, you can go ahead and remove the oil filter without removing the oil first. No oil will leak out from the full pan during this process. To help avoid bearing stress when you start up, try to fill the oil cartridge about 3/4 full with fresh oil before spinning it back on.

    ***Callaway ZR-1 Overheating Hi Temp***

With my new (to me) 368 c.i. '92 CR1, I was at Carlisle this year during the same heat spell that cooked Steve's clutch fluid. While sitting in traffic on the hottest day, my car went to 208 on the digital gauge and looked like it would continue climbing at a couple of degrees per minute. Per...

    4th Alternator in 2 months????

Dead Battery Again Batteries definitely get hurt a bit each time that they are completely discharged, so you may have damaged your battery. But I doubt the damage would cause the type of overnight discharge you just experienced. If your battery dropped from 12.5 plus volts to 2.4 volts in a...

    4th Alternator in 2 months????

Computer Drain tip Thanks for the tip on the computer drain. I have not heard of that one. However, a clamp on DC ammeter should not be required. You can easily and probably more accurately measure the current drain with a standard in line ammeter. Just be certain that you have both leads...

    4th Alternator in 2 months????

Don't tease us Tyrel, please don't tease us. What is the name/phone number/web site of the heavy duty alternator manufacturer that you have had good luck with? What is the model number for the alternator that has been bullet proof for you? Thanks

    4th Alternator in 2 months????

Dying C4 Alternators C4 alternators are a pretty weak design in the first place. You should not jump start a dead battery with jumper cables and then rely on the alternator to charge the battery back up. You should slow charge the battery back to life first with a battery charger. Using the...

    Oil Pre-Luber

Instant Start Up Thanks for the responses. My ZR1 motor always starts instantly, even if it has been sitting for several weeks. That is really why I was thinking of some type of pre-luber. That initial bare metal/metal contact cannot be good for the longevity of the motor. Does anyone know...

    Oil Pre-Luber

This post that I had on the Zr1 board is not getting any responses. Does anyone here have any good or bad experiences with motorized engine pre-lubers?? old post below: Engine Prelubers (re-visited) This thread has been sleeping for a little over one year, so I thought it might be time to...

    [LONG] A Callaway story...my weekend

No start problem Josh, I suspect your no start problem was due to the VATS (vehicle anti theft system) acting up, and not your starter. I used to have regular (2-3 times per month) problems on my 86 coupe and I just had a probable VATS problem on my 92 Callaway ZR1. The VATS can be bypassed...

    Preluber

Engine Prelubers (re-visited) This thread has been sleeping for a little over one year, so I thought it might be time to wake it up. Many of us have cars that sit for extended periods between use. Extended non-use periods allow engine lubricants to move away from critical wear area; this...
