74 Big Block. Need to replace alternator, and am considering the 100 amp unit that is available, in lieu of the stock 63 amp. My only question: is that difference in output capacity significant enough to warrant any wiring upgrades to handle added charging load?
74 big block 454 with stock Quadrajet. Can someone tell me the function of the idle stop solenoid mounted on the throttle side front corner of the carb? Also, how to correctly test the solenoid for functionality?
Have a 74 big block - have had no previous problems, but while cruising along at 30 mph yesterday the engine just abruptly died. Pulled over and tried to restart, and it took for ever to fire. Revved it up and held it at 2500 rpm for about 30 seconds to clear it out, but when I slowly allow the...
Timely discussion for me. Replaced battery in our 74 C3 about 3 weeks ago and took it for a 3 hour drive, then parked it. Went to drive it last Friday and.....click. Put the new battery on charge and reinstalled it yesterday (reading 12.68v), went for a 1 hour drive with no significant loads...
Replacing 74 headlight switch. Manual says to lower steering column to remove instr. cluster, and refers back to steering section. Steering section only discusses steering column removal - not "lowering". Is this as simple as dropping the bracket at dash and the bracket at firewall, and slightly...
Newly acquired 74 coupe. All interior lighting works, with exception of the instrument clusters. Before I check the fuse, then the dreaded opening up of the clusters to check/replace bulbs, any other known and common cause for this that I should check first? Seemed ironic to me that all would...

Extremely well. Current owner has a favorite mechanic - who also happens to be a friend of mine. (That is actually how I learned the car was for sale.) Spent several hours with the mechanic and car following my second test drive.
Greetings all - new to the forum and very close to becoming a C3 big block owner. I have owned and restored a number of classics - mostly Fords (am I permitted to say that word here?) and british classics. I am a very capable garage mechanic and bodyman.
I am near purchase of a 74 big block...
