Isn't .045 the correct gap? I just installed Edel. heads with same recommended plugs and gapped at .045. Just using factory specs. on a 82.

Orig. system still working. On my 80 all it dose is honk the horn, no engine kill. So if I ever see a silver 80 vette going down the road with the horn honking I'll know its mine and has been stolen.

One thing to check for sure and it's already been mentioned is remove and clean the IAC's. If you do have to replace the fuel pump up-grade to a 85 [more flow]. Also replace the fuel filter located under pass. side frame, this should be done very first.

I replaced my intake with the performer non-egr this last winter. She passed emmisions with the old one blocked off so I figured why pay the extra money for the intake with one if I wasn't going to use it anyway.

Get a flashlight and take a good look under the front end and nose tip. Look for damage on the lower air dam, broken or cracked fiberglass, holding screws missing or broken, rubber trim ect.. Stop Curbs and sidewalks chew em up. I'm not recommending this because of a women owner but that front...

I also had the same problem even after replacing with new bushings. I used teflon tape, several wraps around the bushing. It took a couple of tries to get it just right but works fine. Holds where I put it but still move-able.

Buy yourself a hand vac. pump and gauge. You will be able to check the vac. lines and equip. there hooked up to. I found many leaks on mine using this. Just take one circuit at a time. Be careful using starter fluid or propane to check for gasket leaks. Don't want no scinged hair. Also you said...

Zektor, You might think about cleaning up your intake. Since your not using the EGR you can cut away the big drop channel inside the intake. Cut back the runners a tad and clean up the casting imperfections along with port matching. Should help the breathing even more. Do you have clearance...

If I remember right the 82 has 3/8 in. pressed in rocker studs. I may be wrong here and maybe more experienced mechs. can join in but you need threaded studs. They need to be removed and reinstalled to hold the guide plates on. This will require head removel and shop work done. Tapping holes...

When I had mine out for repair I used a 9v battery to check operation. Just ran jumpers from battery to connections on clock. Ran all nite and day off of the little battery. After it was installed it ran for a month than went t-ts up. Will install a quartz conversion next time.
