1979 Corvette L82 and other vehicles

Well, it looks like that time has come. I posted the ad in the General For Sale section since it includes other vehicles, as well. The link to the ad is here. Joe

    Oversquare options

Well, clearly the standard 350 is an oversquare engine (1.149 bore/stroke ratio), but I was wondering what people think about going further. Say, bore a 400-block .030 over, then toss in a 3.5" stroke crank, for a bore/stroke ratio of 1.187 and a displacement just a hair shy of 380 inches...

    Hood latch cross-cable installation

Okay, I just replaced the cross-cable between the two hood latches. Random question: do I adjust it to be a dead-on fit, or do I go one notch tighter, so it's under a small amount of tension? Thanks, Joe

    "Quick-Release" Valve Covers

Interesting product. Anyone know if they're any good? Hamburger's "Quick-Release" Valve Covers Joe

    Wanted: fixed headlights

I'm looking to install fixed headlights on the Shark. Anyone have a set they'd like to sell? And, once I replace them, my pop-up headlights will be available for sale to someone who wants them... Joe

    Tri-Y Headers

What are the benefits/drawbacks of the "tri-y" style headers, as opposed to the more traditional 4-into-1 headers? Also, on a related note, would the connection pattern of the tri-y header need to be changed, if a 4/7 cam were installed? Joe

    Crankcase breather grommet

Sounds silly, but where can I get a new grommet for the breather tube hole in my passenger's side valve cover? NAPA had nothing except the PCV grommet that goes in the driver's side. And it wasn't even the right one, anyway - wouldn't fit the hole in the cover, let alone accept the breather...

Exhaust ideas for my ... Shark!

Shorty headers w/o heat riser Which shorty headers will and won't bolt up with the heat riser butterfly removed? I want that dang thing gone, but I need headers that will connect to the exhaust, directly... Thanks, Joe

    Exhaust ideas for my GN...

Well, my cat-back exhaust is pretty much shot. I got an extra year out of it by welding patches over the holes in the y-pipe, but the patches are starting to fall off, so I'm looking to replace it, and trying to find a better solution than the Hooker exhaust that's on there. For those who...

    Electronic TH400 or TH350?

Which GM transmissions have been available in electronic form? The 4L60 and 4L80E, obviously. But have there ever been electronically-controlled versions of the TH350 or TH400? Also, how is the electronic valve body actuated by the controller? Could the electronic valve body be installed in...

    A/C compressor drag?

How much parasitic drag does a typical A/C compressor have? Just curious exactly how much it costs, in terms of power loss, to have the A/C installed and running. Joe

    Request: Drivetrain dimensions...

Does anyone have dimensioned drawings of the engine and transaxle for the C5? Or, for starters, does anyone know the length from the front of the transaxle to the centerline of the drive yokes? Same question for the engine: front of the engine, to the face where the bellhousing mounts? And...

    '79 L82 high-performance project

Well, it looks like the Shark has to go. I need to simplify things a bit, and having two performance cars just doesn't work for me right now. So I'm selling the Shark and my Grand National, and I'm probably going to buy an already-modified C4. That should work well, since I want to be driving...

    Transaxles

Here's an odd one... Can anyone name a transaxle that can take hefty amounts of torque, and has the differential at the front? Joe

    What's the deal with signatures?

Sometimes my signature appears at the bottom of my posts. Sometimes it doesn't. What gives? Obviously, it has to do with the box being checked or not, but why do some forums default to showing it and others to not showing it? Joe

    A/C for an intercooler?

I was browsing around randomly, and decided to check out the "other forum." I came across an interesting topic by one member. He used a water/air intercooler, and hooked the lines to a resevoir in the back (pretty standard stuff, up to this point). Instead of filling the resevoir with ice for...

Wanted: willing to trade for a C4 convertible

I'm looking to sell/trade my '87 Buick Grand National. I'd like to get a C4 convertible. Preferrable later in the generation ('95 or '96 area), but I'm open to other ideas. Actually, I'd even trade for a coupe, if it was interesting (ie, already modified) enough... See the description in the...

Thinking of buying a C4 vert...

Much as I'd hate to part with them, I'm seriously considering selling my '79 and my Buick Grand National, and buying a C4... I'd like to have a more "turn key" car than the Shark, and a more practical car than the GN ($300 for new rear tires every 3000 miles wears thin...) I'd also like to get...

    Should I get a ZR-1?

I was considering selling one of my cars, and someone suggested the idea of selling both and getting a ZR-1. So, what do you guys think? Am I going to be able to find a ZR-1 in respectable condition for high teens to low twenties? I'm not looking for a show car, but a reliable car to drive on...

    How does this transmission work?

Okay, I was looking at information on various manual transmissions, and I noticed that several shifted with a couple of shafts (with levers attached) on the side, instead of the shifter that comes through the top of the case or tailhousing. Reading further, I found that one shaft is for...
