    '60 hardtop restoration

A long time ago, I bought a hard top for my '57. I was told by many knowledgeable people back then was that '56-'60 hard tops are exactly the same design. The '61 and '62 tops are a little different but were the same design. So there are only two different versions of C-1 hard tops.

The questions we all get asked......

For a least a year after I completed my '57 street rod project, I got many of the same questions as the posts above. No one whoever commented on the car knew what year it was...they always guessed wrong. Then...one day I was driving it home from work and stopped by the beer store, owned by a...

Are C-1 and C-2 prices falling???

The original owner of my '67 convertible only paid $5018.25 new. Such a deal I tell ya! ;shrug

    Last 67

I agree and don't see anything special about this "Last Stingray", except it has a restamped, replacement engine. '67's are a dime a dozen, I should know. One of the most truly significant and valuable cars auctioned at BJ last weekend in my opinion, was the Super Snake, formerly owned by...

    Loud clicking noise

I had a loud clicking and clacking noise that slowly developed in my L-79 near the distributor, couldn't figure out what it was. Readjusted all the hydraulic lifters, etc. I was hoping it wasn't something internal. Turned out the threaded distributor tach cable cup had worked loose and the...

    jute carpet padding

The original padding was rubberized hair and jute. Like you guys said, rubber on one side and a thin layer of woven jute on the other side. What was and maybe still is in the middle is horsehair. Nasty stuff. PT :D

    Midyear GM Restoration Bumpers...

Thanks Steve, I called Paragon and they claim to own the original GM tooling. Of course they are the most expensive @ $449 each. A couple other guys have told me Paragon is the only way to go. For just a $100 more than the others, I can't afford not to get the Paragon repros. Patrick :D

    Midyear GM Restoration Bumpers...

I've heard that the front midyear GM restoration bumpers don't fit very well. I've been told that there are at least two manufacturers of these bumpers, one in the U.S. the other in Taiwan. One has the original tooling from GM and the other one has made up the tooling themselves. The cost...

    Help me understand whitewalls

The original owner of my '67 ordered the car with red stripe tires. The day they built the car at St. Louis, they ran out of them and substituted White Side Walls as shown below. The revision notice #1593 is also noted. The owner told me he refused delivery of the car with the white walls, so...

How about nail polish remover? It has acetone in it. PT

    KNOCK OFFS

This tool is the easiest way to tighten or take off the knock off spinners without damage. It is urethane lined to prevent damage to the chrome on the spinners. It comes with a lead hammer. It's pricey too, Corvette Central has them for $267.00. PT

    tranny question

I had a Muncie M-22 that popped out of gear into neutral when I let off the gas. Took it apart, the synchronizers were fine but the 3-4 slider sleeve was shot from power shifts. Got a major rebuild kit from Zip and rebuilt the entire trans; the slider sleeve was $80, which I had to buy...

    1967-68 Turn Signal Switch Assembly

I have a recent Paragon catalog and it says they have them. Part #5361, the price is......."call". 800-882-4688. For comparison, I got one of the last LICS NOS switches for $75. Good luck. PT :D

    Grrrrr

I had my '67 Holley rebuilt by the original manufacturer, their rebuild facility is in Tennessee. Cost a few hundred, but when I got back and put it on, it still leaked like a sieve. I called their tech line, but whatever remedies they gave me didn't work. Finally gave up and gave it, in...

    Dot 4 or Dot 5??

After I put new brake lines in my '67, I flushed the whole system out with a gallon of denatured alcohol. Just gravity bled it over a couple days, so it got a lot of "hang time" in the calipers and MC. Then I put a new quart of DOT 5 in a large, clean coffee can and put it on the stove at...

    Factory Option

I was taking off the rectangular access door on the frame on my '67, the one for the body mount, just ahead of the kickup. I'm very sure it had never been removed. Inside the cavity where the body mount bolt was....there was a crumpled up empty pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes. I flattened it...

    Help diagnosing an engine miss.

I'm not sure exactly what terms you mean by cam lift. If either the intake or exhaust rocker arm is too tight and not properly adjusted, this will cause a miss in the engine. Go back and get the #3 valves closed and readjust the rocker arm nut. Don't ask me how I know this. PT

even the simple stuff I can make difficult

I'm painting a lot of small parts too, like the pulleys, etc. I wipe them down good with lacquer thinner then heat them up real good with a torch to get all the moisture out of the metal and burn off any impurities on the surface. Then I give the part a good coat of spray primer. Primer is...

Why VNV no longer needs a cardiologist

    Spindle tool

I had the torque arms out of my '67 and used a 5 ton press with the 3 hooks to pop out the spindle, which had never been out since new. It wouldn't budge. Finally I gave up and took it to a John Deere Dealer where they had a 30 ton press with a pressure guage, The mechanic started pumping the...
