I've been using Mobil 1 oil & filters for my 2004 Vette (standard engine) from the beginning. I recently moved to Missouri, and my local GM service guy told me they use two types of oil for my car - Mobil and GTX, with the GTX being $30 cheaper for the oil/filter change (I forgot to ask about...
Corvette Lovers:
I have a 2004 Vette Coupe that I bought new. It has the standard 350 HP with 6 spd and has 20K southern US miles on it, both short and long trip mileage. I've had no problems with it and have the oil and filter changed at regular intervals. I've never driven it "hard"...
I have a 2004 coupe with 19K miles. Yesterday, I noticed a two inch split on the right rear tire with the center parts bulging out. There are no marks around it to indicate I hit something. In other words, I think it may just be a deformity. Although it's possible, I can't think of a time...
Hi,
Where can I find a good source (e.g. web site, book, etc) that explains the improvements that have been made in the C5's by year up through 2004?
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
I have an '04 Coupe with the original standard equipped AM/FM/Single CD player. How difficult would it be to install an aftermarket XM satellite radio that I can easily take out and use in another vehicle. If this subject has been brought up before, you can just redirect me there...
I have an '04 Coupe, black interior and I need some ideas on how to carry extra small items without them sliding around (eyeglasses, cell phone, small notebook, etc). Does anyone have any experience with the after market items, like the one that fits on the back of the console? How about a...
I heard today that the coolant that has been installed in GM cars since 1996 has a tendancy to break down and possibly dammage the radiator and other cooling system parts. Since I own three GM vehicles, is this something I need to worry about? Thanks.
I want to thank the Vette owner from Ohio who's vanity plate reads "B4 2OLD". I put that on my Alabama registered 2004 spiral gray Vette and I get (almost) as many positive comments on the plate as I do on my car. I'm 57 years old, but every time I dirive it, I feel 20 years younger.
Is it necessary to change the oil on my 2004 Vette after a few thousand miles to remove the metal "slivers" that result from a new engine? This used to be the rule with the older cars, but I don't know if it's still applicable today. Thanks.

Mrs. S., Thanks for the excellent detailed description on how to bypass the first to fourth gear shift problem. I ordered my CAGS bypass part from Mid-America and their instructions and pictures made it a piece of cake to install. And, since I always use my HUD, I rarely ever notice the "1 to...
Hi All!
Will someone please tell me the rationale for having to shift from first to fourth when travelling between 15 and 19 MPH? I first missed that part when reading my 2004 owners' manual and thought I wasn't shifting properly. (I hope I didn't mess up the trans by forcing it into second.)...
I have a 2004 Vette with a 6-speed. According to my owner's manual, I can use 87 octane gasoline as long as the engine doesn't knock, but I'd risk losing some power by doing so. Since I don't plan to push it to its limits, do I really need to use premium unleaded? In the long run, will it...
First of all, I'd like to say that as a one-week old member of CAC, this is one of the most informative sites that I've ever been in. I especially benefitted from the topic "04 not 03", since I ordered an 04 two weeks ago. My question has to do with a cover for my new arrival as far as...
