02 Vette oil sending unit

Bought this Vette 2 months ago, bought the warranty and the oil presure unit is bad not covered under the warranty, nice. The dealership is charging me 550 to 600 to replace. I read that cutting a hole in the wiper shroud to get to it is easier, but then you have a unsightly hole.

You can do it without cutting the hole. There's info somewhere on how
to do it with a socket and a universal joint on the ratchet. You can also
pull the intake manifold to do it, and replace the gaskets/o-rings while
you're at it. I had mine done last year by a Corvette mechanic for
$240.00 out the door INCLUDING parts (sender and o-rings)! Took him
about an hour and a half, and he wasn't rushing it.

Hi and welcome to the CAC! Sorry to hear about your oil sending unit issue. I had mine replaced several years ago.

Thanks for the info Andy I will look for that procedure. I called the salesmen at the dealership he said he would talk to them about reducing the cost.

I just watched the utube vid on how to without messing with the intake and a 100 wires. Now I feel stupid, that looked easy I can do that, thanks everyone for your help. I'm new to Corvettes, this is my first one, and as you can tell I'm new to this forum. It makes great reading and what to expect in the future on my baby, I'm gald I found this site.

Welcome to CAC! Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I would have told you that there is a video on UTube that shows how to do it, it about 15 minutes, but it appears that you found it.

I just replaced my sensor a week ago or so.
I was going to try the socket with a universal like the video, but I was also getting a P1416 code which is the air check valves. To replace one of the valves, you have to remove the intake.

Removing the intake manifold is pretty easy. There are some good write ups on it.

If you end up going with removing the intake, go ahead and change out the air check valve behind the driver's side head since you would already be there.

I bought my oil pressure sensor from O'Reilly's. Make sure you get a good quality sensor.

I'm pressed for time so I wasn't able to study the entire write-up, but it looked like an excellent step by step instruction for even novice C5 do-it-yourselfer's. Thanks!

Not surprising when you consider he performed the task, took time to document all the steps with photos and created a roadmap for newbies to follow.

It appears time was not a consideration, but completion of the project and sharing the process was.

Junkman is very thorough and he did a few other jobs while he was in there. I think that explains part of the time factor. And the fact that he documents his maintenance write-ups, takes time as well. Personally,I believe the Junkman does a great and thorough job in his write-ups.
