hi

i'm new so forgive my somewhat stupid questions, i finally recieved my 1953 corvette #267 from Alberta..what a mess, i actualy thought it was a 1954 at purchase and was going to use it for parts on my 54, got lucky...now, after careful exam, the head seems wrong, the block has a LAY casting which appears ok from my research and communication with Al Hill.

Is it possible for a blue flame 6 to have a head off a newer one? say 54 or whatever....exactely how many years were Blue Flame six engines made, and how many other GM parts (head..etc) were interchangable with other GM products.(was corvette the only one with the blue flame 6?)
Assuming the head is incorrect which im pretty sure of, has 4 hold downs, and not 2..can anyone point me in a direction to locate one of these animals..
i also need one for my 1954....

As a funny side note i moved a family of field mice from Alberta to British Columbia in the 53, living in the seat cushions....i suppose they are missing there barn by now...also some joker appears to have wanted this car in green...assuming it was not a mold thing...had a pale green pass door...OH this car is gonna cost me bigtime

Im still sorting through the boxes of parts....actually i should call them garbage boxes....not much survived

thanks in advance :w

it may cost you big time - and I'm sure it will.
But if you can manage to get the '53 restored back into correct condition it will be worth big-time also!

Congrats on your find!

Call Dave Ferguson and Don Mullenhoff

Two of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby are Dave Ferguson and Don Mullenhoff. Dave is the 53-55 Team Leader for NCRS. He has owned and restored many, many 53 -55 Corvettes ( as well as 56-57 cars)

Don Mullenhoff is also a long time 53-55 Corvette guy. He restored Noland Adams 53, and has one of the most beautiful black/ red 54's in the world he restored in the late 70's early 80's.

Send me a private e-mail and I will share their phone numbers. Two great guys with probably 90 years of combined knowledge of these old cars.

So great you have found another one. Dave will get you hooked up on the 53 Registry.

Dave,

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center and congrats on your great find. The 235 was built from '53-'62 for both passenger car and truck use. Most parts like the heads will interchange for service use but the casting numbers will vary. I'm not sure when the heads changed from 2 to 4 bolt valve covers but I'm thinking 1955.

Look in the Model Center found under the Tech Center tab for some good '53 info also.

thanks guys

i'm happy to be here, what a wealth of info you guys are...damn if only i was wealthy enough to complete this 53 in record time!

I'm way to excited about this find, and way to broke to get both the 53 and 54 done at the same time! However i am thinking of stripping down my 54 to supply parts to my 53, can that be done without affecting originality?
