Folks, I'm in the process of a LT1 engine rebuild. My plan is to convert to 10-10.5:1 compression ratio in order to run on pump gas.
Any suggestions on piston type. Flat top forged or hyperutectic?
Also suggestions on new solid lifter cam. Specs. and brand.
Any additional comments would be appreciated on helping this engine restoration.

First, welcome aboard CAC.
Not LT1 specific because I don't have LT1 experience ... I understand this motor came w/ 64cc heads. Suggest SpeedPro (aka TRW) L2417F, L2327F, L2490F ... all are forged & flat w/ 2 reliefs except 2417 has a single trough ... any of them in 30 over will make right at 10:1 cr w/64cc comb cham.

Cam ... suggest www.camcraftcams.com ... contact Charles Reichard charles@camcraftcams.com ... he makes EXCELLENT solid flat tappet cams for our 355" asphalt circle track cars ... not cheap ... but super personal advice, service, support & quality. None better!

The LT-1 cam and lifters are available from GM as a kit under P/N 12364054 (manufactured by Crane, as are all GMPP cams); uses stock grocery-getter valve springs, just as the original did.

I have a 70 z/28 with the org LT1 and all I did was change the head gasket from the steel factory ones for some fel-pro ones that were thicker. This brought down the CR and with a little timming it runs fine on 93 pump gas. That way I didn't have to dig into the engine and change a bunch of stuff.Hope this helps.
