I was wondering if anyone could inform me on how to disassembal the speedometer from its platic shell on a 1979.I have the second generation speedometer(not the one that only reads up to 85mph) I have the tachometer completely apart, but the speedometer is held on by the button which resets the odometer and also the gauge in the center of the speedometer. Also I'm looking for a picture diagram of the 79's fusebox , I have a list of the fuses, but the names are worn off of the actually fusebox, so I do not know what size goes where? Any help would be appreciated!

First and foremost... Welcome to the CAC. There is a lot of information on this website to help you out. Try doing a search first on some of your key words. Also, what would be of the most help I believe to you now would be a shop manual of some sort. I am not sure how much detail it would go into about this, but give it a try. Local AutoZone's or Pep Boys carry the manuals

I have the 68 - 82 Haynes shop manual but its not helpful due to its vagueness in order to meet the demands of a 14 yr space. And I have found some info on the fusebox but nothing that tells me what fuses go where, only a list of all the fuses for the 1981 model(which is supposed to be the same)

fuse box, etc

Welcome! spent 4 yrs at furman myself obtaining my MBA at night. Loved it, but it was a real waste because I've never gotten even the first interview
Corvette Central, Ecklers, Corvette America, Rik's (Morganton, NC), Paragon, Vips, Last Detail (Atlanta) are parts vendors that have catelogues . Besides being a resource for information, you will find wiring diagrams, and other info that will help you w/this particular problem.
Another good resource for me is the Assembly Manual for your particular year. Most of the above have them...around $20-30...pretty compresensive.
Also, there is a Corvette shop on Hwy 123 between Easley and Greenville, which is about 20 miles from Furman that might be of help. Their prices and attitude turned me off personally.
Incidentially, Clocks by Rogers (Tenn.) will redo your speedo , any instrument actually, and can change the face to 165mph...which is what I had done.
good luck, jim

Welcome to CAC. I strongly recommend that you buy an original Chevrolet Corvette Shop Manual for the 79 Corvette. These turn up on Ebay frequently and I think they are also available from commercial reprinters. They have a red cover. These books have step by step instructions on how to do everything that needs to be done to repair these cars. Because they are year specific they are really helpful to amatur mechanics(like me). A second very useful book is an assembly manual which has drawings of how the entire car is assembled. These things are on Ebay all of the time for about $25.00 or from Mid America. Good Luck. - Bob
