This is how a buddy of mine recently restored his 87 headlight motors. The instructions apply to the 1984-87 motor design only. The 1988-96 lights use a different setup.
It is a good idea to do this even if your lights now work so they don't wear out any of the hard parts.
The grease that is installed when it was built eventually hardens and no longer lubricates the bushings.
If you take the lights apart you can clean them and add new grease to make them work better than new.
