1984 Shift Point Question

My 1984 C4 doesn't appear to be shifting until 6k rpm only when you accelerate WOT from a complete stop. During normal driving all shifts feel normal and correct. Could my Tac be off? Is there a way to adjust he shift point? How cani further diagnose this?

you'll know if that thing is really spinning 6000 rpm ! if it will....they're not really good for that under a load.

As VetteOz stated, get the TV cable set right and the rest falls in place. The ONLY other thing would possibly be a shift kit thats been installed that has altered the trans with different internal valving. No way to adjust. The normal upshift into OD should be at approx 50-55 mph when driving in OD (4th) and letting the trans decide when to upshift. The cable adjustment is fairly sensitive so go easy on the slide..just a couple clicks at a time then test drive.
This is a little odd because IF it were the TV cable too tight the 1-2-3 upshifts would be stretched wayyyy out and you;d see high rpm before ANY upshift. Check it anyway...never know.

If you are getting this high rpm before upshift when you stand on the pedal and stay WOT waiting for an upshift....hitting max high rpm is pretty well expected. Its not going to upshift if the engine is still pulling. It will do something different if you upshift manually when standing in the throttle...try that.
