1986 Bose Radio Help!

Reception stinks, both Am and FM. Cassette does not work! I have heard better tunes through a coat hanger antenna on a crystal radio kit from Radio Shack! Should I pull it out, or fix what is there? The sound is weak, lacks tone and timber, but can be loud ( if lousey loud is good). There are many replacement options out there, but what is the best fix or replacement option, if any?

Any insight on this topic would be helpful.

Welcome to the My guess is Eagle will chime in here and give you excellent advice. I think a lot depends on your expectations. If you want to bump the hood this system will never do it. If your interest is keeping your vette stock and you don't need way high end audio, the system can be made to sound well enough. Either way it's like ly to be fairly labor intensive, and you'll have to spend some money.

It is possible that it is not your antenna causing the trouble, but as I say, I think Eagle is the resident expert on this. Ther is a vendor on the forum that seveal people have used and been satisfied with. I refuse to do business with them because I feel they have been arrogant, condesending, and argumentative when posting in the forum. My $.02. Do a forum search if you want all kinds of info.

I chose to repair my unit and keep the stock Bose unit. Really not that bad a sounding unit but as already said it will never match a high end unit. It can be a bear to replace the amps but if the amps are in good shape you can have the head end repaired at Ecklers (no affiliation) and many other repair shops. I keep a spare I got on E-bay when I send her for repairs.
