Today, my car decided that it doesn't like going into gear. What gives? I can change the gears easily when the car is not on, but when it is on, it is pure hell getting the car to go into first. I have to physically jam it in to gear. Is it the pressure plate or does it sound like the whole clutch needs replacing? How much am I looking at to have this fixed?
Thanks in advance!!!

Sounds like your clutch is toast.

That's what I figured... Any idea on cost?

Clutch, is gone for sure.......check and make sure the pressure plate isnot burnt....I would prob. replace the Clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing while I had the tranny out.......

I've found the kit on Ecklers for 269.99. Is that a good price?

Is the pedal firm or soft? If soft or 'spongy' I would check the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder also.

Good luck :beer

It's not soft, but it's softer. Not sure how soft "soft" is.

Check your fluid levels. You could have a slow leak pass the seals and you finally lost enough that there is not enough fluid, ie. pressure in the line, to engage the clutch. If so replace both the master and slave, bleed correctly and you should have a clutch again. Let us know how it works out.

Good Luck :beer

thanks a lot. it's weird, I had to move it, so when I started it to drive it, when I had the clutch all the way in, it would roll forward (kind of like when you barely have the clutch in when it works.)

Well, I've decided to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and while everything is out, also replace the slave and master cylinders...
By my last post "when I started it to drive it, when I had the clutch all the way in, it would roll forward (kind of like when you barely have the clutch in when it works.)" what does that problem sound like?

when it started going out, was it a long process, or did it happen all of a sudden, with little warning?

It started shiftng into first pretty stiff, and then within 3 days it would not go into first at all. It was pretty quick.
