1987 Brakes

I'm looking to replace at least the front pads on my '87 Z52 coupe. This is strictly a street-driven car and is very stock. What's the recommended pad these days? Hawk HPS, Baer Sport Touring, stock AC Delcos??

Also, if the rotor thicknesses are still within the limits, is there any reason to mess with them?

If the rotors are smooth, nothing catches your finger nails, no deep scouring more than .050" of an inch, no heat damage, cracks, etc...then yes you can just pad slap it. If yours are rusty, pitted, scoured badly, or otherwise then you need to replace them.

If you can afford it, rotors really arn't that much, you might just put new ones on for grins and giggles. Something less to worry about.

FYI, if they are ok, but have a rust ridge, that will need to be ground off or you will get noise from the brakes.

In your case,and this is just my opinion, if you car is stock, just stick with stock parts.

Disk Brake Rotors, how about that???
Disks=Rotors, generally they are called rotors.

In terms differentiating brake types we use the terms disk and drum. I don't know why, it just is.

Then why not call them rotor brakes ? Terms disk and drum are because the former utilises a disk and a pad, the latter a drum and a shoe. Roger.

I dont know, it is what is is. Tamato=Tomato, same thing different name, Ketchup=Catchup, etc...
