Can anyone tell me what the idle quality is on the GM 385hp Fastburn crate motor? I would like to have a moderate to rough idle with a good lope. Anyone heard one of these?

they are lopey, not to bad though. ask the service and parts guys at your local GM dealer, chances are one or more of them have the motor in their rig. if so, then you can listen for yourself. Brian

there are a bunch of motors available from GM performance. what are you looking for exactly?? check out this site, they have pretty much every thing under the GM sun. http://www.paceparts.com/store.asp also, everything offered is a direct order part from any GM dealer, most stock the popular parts/engines. With more ZZZ through ZZ4 crate engines sold over the years than any other high performance crate engine, it only makes sense that GMPP would continue to improve that successful family of engines. The new Fast Burn uses the proven ZZ4 shortblock and adds to it the Fast Burn cylinder heads for 385 value packed horsepower. With value in mind, the Fast Burn uses stamped rocker arms and the same ZZ4 camshaft that powers thousands of hot rods. The Fast Burn is an excellent choice for the basis of a custom engine. Its strong froged steel crankshaft and forged powdered metal connecting rods have been proven to 500 horsepower. And its Fast Burn cylinder heads are hungry for a little more cam. 430 horsepower at 6000 rpm is achievable by adding the HOT cam and 1.6 self aligning rocker arms.

Thanks for the information. It was also just confirmed by one of my GM friends that just walked through the door that the cylinder heads is where the Fastburn name came from.
It appears to be a good basic engine that could be improved
. A good replacement for the rare 1970 LT1 with a few extra parts.

385 fast burn engine
I bought the ZZ4 and it is all I need but if you want more the 385 /385 is the same engine as the ZZ4 but it has the higher RPM heads so horsepower is up but torque is down . If you have Low gears 4.11 or so then higher RPM heads are better I have 3.08 rear gears so I wanted torque more than horsepower. You can get the high out put cam and rocker arm kit they sell and I believe the power goes up to 425 /425 which for a small block is not bad at all . I shopped on the internet when I bought mine and found no one could touch the Autocenter dealer in Dallas Texas mine cost me $3380. and $225. I think for shipping and no tax! Look for yourself but try them and see,good people and no problems at all . Good luck on your venture :bar :bar :bar

Thanks guys, I am fairly well sold on the 385. I did call and ask if it could be purchased with the larger "Hot Cam" installed but they will not do it. I can order it and install myself but run the risk of warranty issues. I just might buy the 385 and get it good and broken in for the warranty period, then upgrade it from there.
