Can anyone tell me the difference between the 327, 4 speed, 250hp base engine, and the 327, 4 speed, 300hp upgrade.

Per the shop manual, all specs (cam, valves, etc) appear the same. Only change noted is in carburation. The 250hp has the WCFB and the 300hp has the AFB carb. Would this be enough for a 50hp jump?

I will take a stab at it...I think the intake and carb are different, and the engine tunning specs are little different. I have L-76, so when researching the L-76 (340 HP in 1963) I do remember comming across that. The carb is really the big difference. Also they do you spacers between the carb and intake, and the 250 HP engine uses different spacers then the 300 HP (again I think this is correct).

I hope this helps a little....get the Restoration Guide 63-67 and it has a section the explains the differences...

Other than the carb and intake, they're identical in all respects; the carb and intake had some help from marketing guys in generating the 50-hp difference:D

Willy:

Just one other difference: for 1964 and 1965, the base exhaust manifolds were 2", while the 300 HP with 4 speed, and all of the hi horse engines were 2 1/2". 300 HP engines with automatic was 2".
