My 66 327 coupe has repro knockoffs and Bridgestone P215/75SR15's. I'd like to replace the knockoffs with steel rims and original wheel covers.

Are rims from other GM models and years interchangeable with the Corvette's?

I've noticed that Corvette catalogs offer 205/75/R15's as replacement tires for the Stingray. Should I expect any problems with the size I have?

I can't give you a complete answer, but here is some info that might help:

The original wheels were GM #3869156, which are 15 x 5.5 inch with raised bumps to hold the wheel covers. Corvettes only used them in 1965 & 1966, but I don't know if they were used on other cars. Several vendors offer steel wheels (which appear to have been discontinued by GM, but you might double check that), such as Long Island Corvette, Dr Rebuild, etc., but at a stiff price of around $150 each and they may not have the necessary bumps. I don't have a cross-reference parts manual to see if other cars used that wheel.

205/75-15 or 215/70-15 will be closest to original circumference to keep the speedometer accurate. The 215/75's will probably work OK, just be careful going over bumps with the steering cranked to one side (like when turning into a driveway) to be sure the tire doesn't contact the fiberglass fender lip.

I am running 215/70-15 on my 64. When I turn it to the max to backout of my driveway it does just barely come in contact with the inner fenderwell. This only happens when cut to the left to the max, but not enough to do any harm. I wouldn't go any samller even with this small contact.

I've had 15X7 steel rally wheels ('68 only Corvette and I'm sure others but watch the offset) with 225/60/15 tires all around and 1/4" spacers on the front with no clearance problems anywhere. The car is also lowered about 1". Never tried wheel covers on, but if the trim rings work, the covers should. That would give you the stock look with much more tire (which is really nice). Happy Motoring!!

I happen to have 4 wheels under my garage having put knockoffs on about a year ago...I also have 4 '66 Hubcaps that are in pretty good condition...If you are interested...I have 215 65 x 15's on my knockoffs...
