Do any of you have any idea on how to remove the two top corner pieces on a 68 convertible. I've got the latch bushing components off, but can't figure out how to get the main piece off. I dont want to tear anything up, so I thought I would ask the gang.

As best as I can remember, when you get the top chrome off, there are some screws that go thru the top of the windshield from the front. I had to resist my tendacy to pry. The screws were hard to see under goop and rust, but they are there.

dnewton,
Let me know how you made out.....I tried looking thru the Assembly Manual but really didn't come across anything. If you still need help, let us know.

You are correct 68Roadster... there is nothing at all in any of the manuals I have either. I ended up having a glass company come over for the assist. Like Ol Blue, my pry tenecdies were coming into play. After 37 years of puddy, adhesive, & dirt, that sucker just didn't want to budge. We finally got it out, but it looks like the way they designed this, the top components are attached to the windshield prior to mounting. There are the screws that Ol Blue mentioned and other very hidden ones as well. The window still cracked as expected, but I needed a new windshield anyway as this was the original which had a lot of pits and deep scratches. When you drove into the sun, the defraction was so bad, you couldn't see through it at all.

As a side note to those of you that have convertibles, you can no longer get the windshield latch components that the ragtop pin goes into. Something else yet again odd about the 68 that I didn't know, they had 2 different versions of that component. Neither of the versions have been in production for many years and are very rare finds(you can still get the pin bushings though oddly enough). Mine were really mared up as well as the main top corner window frame pieces, which lead to this whole adventure. I'll just have to clean them up as best as possible and re-chrome them.

I replaced my upper corner moldings on my 75 last year, there is 2 screws under the windshiled molding. yes hidden by the gunk.. and I did crack the windshield, but thankfully theres a local shop that replaces the windshield for about $125.00 so that wasent a big deal. I asked them about the rolled (black chalking stuff that looks like silly putty that is used for sealing parts and they sold me a roll 4 10 bucks. they also told me that ya cant get it anywhere else except from them ? its 3-M ,and usually only glass shops have axcess to it?,

You got a real bargain on the new windshield! Mine is going to be $210 installed. Were you not able to just re-chrome your corner pieces instead of buying new ones? May be different on a 75, but on the 68 the corner pieces are chromed pot metal... along with the piece that connect to the corner frame piece which guides the ragtop pins into the busings. All the other frame pieces around the windshield are polished steel.

my corner pieces are also pot metal and I think there the same for coupe and convertables, but the pot metal was pited and I was able to find a new set for $73. Ea. at ecklers, or one of the other catalogs. they advertise that there for 68-76.so this should fit yr car.
