Was the Intermit Wipers only on the '78 Pace car or also with the ZX2 package? I think I have the ZX2 package - but No Intermit wipers. Someone said it only came on the Pace car...

Heidi, do you have the ZX2 option?

My 78 S/A has the ZX2 package and intermittent wipers.
Dave

Showing my ignorance...

I'm sorry, I can't locate the information about 1978 options.
I don't know what the ZX2 package or option is.

I thought we had a list here at CAC and I had printed it up at one time...but I can't find it. I'll go look in my vette book to see if the paper is there.
Heidi

5 minutes later...
I found the page in my Corvette book. It lists production numbers along with the base price and cost of options but it did not list the option codes.

You guys that have it, what choices does it have on the wiper switch plate? Like Hi, Lo, Int?

The ZX2 option was a convenience package.
Anti theft system, courtesy lamp timer ect...
Dave

Right Dave, that's my point, the convenience package also included intermit wipers, I have all the other stuff except intermit wipers. I guess the pace car theory is out, I know this car was Not played with. My only other guess is that this car is an very early build, first 5,000 made. Maybe it wasn't included then?

I don't know what to think...

I have a factory alarm and delay timer on the interior lights. Kenny says the 78 does have a convenience package...but we have no delay wiper.
*That is the ONLY thing I wish my vette had. I wonder why if it appears I have the convenience package I don't have delay wipers?

My wiper control switch only moves up and down.
Up once for regular speed, up a second notch for fast. There is no twisting of the knob. It states: Wash/Wipe on the housing.
Heidi

btw, here is my vin: 1Z87L8S409869, I don't know how to interpret it and I will look around the site. Can anyone tell when this was built, early or late? I know my vette was first purchased in CA in April.
h

EZ to tell, it was the 9869 built. Send me your code that's inside your drivers door. It goes like D 20 78, that will tell your built date. Mine was 10-17-77. But this wiper stuff is bothering me...why don't we have them...:confused

No letter in my code.

In the door jamb where the hinges are is my trim and paint color codes, and on the outer side of the door are two stickers with build information (weight, tire pressure etc) and under "date" it says 11/77, so I assume November 1977?
Heidi

Your right then, it was built 11/77, but the trim code plate I need. Open the drivers door, look where the door meets the body (under the windshield), that plate has your build date, interior, & paint codes. The big number on top will be C xx 77, C=november, xx=day, 13 & 7 are the Silver & Gray, other# is your interior code. So our cars are early builds, first 3 months ('78's started in Sept '77), maybe the intermit wipers weren't put on then...

the delay feature. while advertised in early 1978 did not became
advable untill aprox mid 1978 cars with serrail nrumber befor
18456 may not have it ncrs techical manual

Well that mystery solved:cry

Here it is...

Chevrolet C17 (built on the 17th?)
Trim 122 13U 07M Paint

Oyster leather w/ SA paint.

Still very odd to have the convenience group but no intermittent wipers. I hope others chime in, too.

Small world our cars were built 1 month apart, with the same paint & interior colors. I guess you read the the post that finally answered it. Oh well...

I missed it!

I just went back and re-read the thread and caught DOCMOW's post. :duh

I have asked about having one installed, aftermarket, and was told that it would be bulky and ugly. Now I just think of my wipers as giving my vette character when I drive in the rain and have to lean forward to flip the switch on and off during light misting.
Heidi

October 17 and November 17...I guess your vette is the older brother to my vette, his younger sister! ;)
Kenny was owner #2 and I am owner #3. Original owner owned a tire shop and only put 65,000 miles on until Kenny bought her in 1990.
One of the things I especially enjoy about this vette is that I know EVERYTHING that has been done to her for the past 13 years!
...and she's paid for! :J

Interesting topic. To my knowledge, I have that same "convenience group" but no intermittant wipers. How hard would it be to retrofit the intermittant wipers to a car that originally did not have them? Seems like it would be a nice addition....

Nice work if you can get it...

I was told by the same person (Corvette Body Off Resto Specialist) that the aftermarket intermittent wipers are bulky and ugly...and when I asked about finding and installing one from a vette that had them...he said it is pretty much like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I wonder if the wiring harness would be different or if it could just be added in? Wouldn't any of the C3 years intermittent wipers work?
