800 miles to Chicago- should i worry?

AAA is cheap isurance

A AAA membership would eliminate the possibility of being extorted by the tow truck operator. Although, if it happens I would like to see a picture of you, your girlfriend, your furry co-pilot and the tow truck driver in the cab of his truck!

Chicago drivers worst in the world????? who do you think invented the bumper car rides at amusement parks!!!!! Gotta give Chicago some credit.
Capitol of hit and runs!!! They invented the games catch me if you can & tag your it also.
I work for the Illinois highway dept.& Go to accidents. You wouldn't believe how many drivers dont have insurance, cant get insurance if you dont have a licence I guess!!! It's around 40% of those involved in accidents.
I'm retired now but I was a over the road trucker for 42 years during that time I had the pleasure of driving through Chicago thousands of times. I tell people that in Chicago the red light is just a suggestion if you don't feel like stopping just do like everyone else and run it. I would never try to move until at least three cars had run the red light. Only place that compares is New York City.

For sure!;LOL

rest assured I'd snap such a pic! If we get cody to cooperate with riding in the 'trunk' space along with the gf in the car, I hope to get a shot of that too! Somewhere I have pics of the last time this car was on a flatbed after sliding off the road and doing the balancing 2 side wheel thing (dukes of hazard style). Actually following that incident, the car was overall fine except the rear rubber on one tire came off- an alignment the next day proved to be a waste of $ as everything was still straight. This is a tough vette! AND- got it back from 'Corvettes Etc.' here in Charlotte with a vette doctor's endorsement for the trip! Lets hope my only stories from this trip aren't car related!
12hrs and counting....

There and back again...

Ahh- so 2000 miles later, I return from what might be my most trouble-free roadtrip EVER! Despite packing enough tools to do an engine swap (ok, so some of you naysayers had me a little worried!) My vette ran beautifully the whole trip there and back, only repeated trouble code was the ole' 02 sensor- still no big deal. In fact by the time I got to Chicagoland, the car was BETTER than I'd left it (or than I'd realized). Some history: The cruise control on this car has never worked since I bought the car. I never was that motivated to track down the problem. However, during the 12-13hrs of driving (each way) I got bored and tried it out again for fun- and sure enough, even that is now working perfectly! :Steer I realize now, that that mysterious vacuum reservoir connector that I fixed while working on something else must have been to blame. Anyway, great trip, great mileage, great drive through the smokey moutains, and nothing but dry, clear roads all the way home and back. Just one night of snow the entire trip! AND now that I've broken in my clutch 4x over I can officially drive it like I stole it again! yay!
Oh- here's the only noteworthy story I gained from the trip:
On the way out of the mountains on the trip there, some lady's SUV in front of me dropped a duffel bag from her luggage rack-- median on left and car on right, I couldn't do much but swerve a bit to take it right down the center. I felt a loud 'THUD' all down the center of the vette and slowed enough to see a cloud of personal belongings explode out the rear of my car through the rearview. So I pretty well vaporized the bag, and pulled over to check out damage to my car. I also pulled over the SUV long enough to kick the lady in the stomach a few times before wishing her a merry christmas. (Just kidding-- I was very polite!) Anyways, so no observable damage to my car, no mechanical trouble, trouble lights, or anything else. There may be a pair of underwear stuck in my exhaust somewhere, but so far, I've yet to discover anything.
The return ride also went smoothly- Cody wasn't thrilled with the idea of riding in the compartment, but with some coaxing and a nice soft blanket, he accepted his fate. Oh yeah- he did get car sick once back there :puke but he ate it again, so that problem also solved itself. ;shrug
And so concludes my roadtrip. Mom might send some pics she took of all 3 of us packed in like sardines and my luggage rack packed as well. If so, I'll try to post 'em.
Happy 2006!!
:blue:

murphy's law #19--take the tools and you won't need em, leave em home and...

Great news about your trip! I'm glad all turned out well! Just don't mention the unmentionables caught in the exhaust pipe to your significant other!!!!! I believe your story (What a hoot! Excellent news that there was no damage!), but, well, you know how women are...Ha! Ha!

Glad to hear all went well!
