Hi Guys,

I have an 84 coupe that I am trying to remove the rear spindle nuts from.

Now normally you would crack this nut before you remove the spindle knuckle assembly from the car, but I have removed the rear suspension and driveline to panel beat the floor where past fellas have bent it by using hydraulic jacks in the wrong lifting areas, and I am repainting the floors and transmission tunnel.

Just after tips on stopping the spindle from moving in the assembly and getting the 36mm nut off. I know they are torqued to 175 ft-lbs.
I have already broken one of the Girlock cast assemblies (knuckle is ok), but I have a spare.

As long as I can get both spindle nuts loose, I can take care of the rest with a T55 Torx and my hydraulic press.

Appreciate the help.

Cheers

Tony

Update - Probkem solved.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to give an update on my spindle nut removal problem.

I took them down to the local mechanic and he lent on them with a 3/4 breaker bar, then a bigger air gun and finally got the gas axe out and heated them...problem solved.

Since the boys got the job sorted, I have cleaned them, used an etch primer and painted the non machine faces.
Came up looking great...well I think so anyway.

Specialised Spindle Nut Tool

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to share my new tool for torquing up the rear spindle nuts.

I purchased an aftermarket steel rim, don't worry it is a faulty/ 2nds rim, and used it to weld up a specialised jig for the rear wheel bearing assemblies or the rear spindle nut.

Now you could do these on the car, but what if you can't, then it's a large vice.

Check this out...works great,

Hib, out here in Chicago we call it the "Hot Wrench." A little different vernacular, but means the same thing. :cool!:

We called them a Heat Wrench when I was young. Regardless, it's a tool well worth having if you have the space and can store it safely.
