Just wanted to let everyone know that I have changed over my ugly burnt out digital dash, and converted it over to a "GREAT LOOKING" guage package from a 1990 Z28 Camaro..... And the guages worked! Took a little time to figure out the wiring but it was done..... Tack, Oil guage, Gas guage, blinkers, hi-dimm, dash lights and the volt guage is what i have working for now...Haven't had time to do the speedometer and temp guage yet.... All it cost me was $50.00 for the guage package from a local junk yard and a couple of other things to make everything look great.........If you are a C4 owner and would like to know how to change over to the guage package...Leave a post or email me and I will post how I did this for less than $100...... This is a whole lot better than spending that crazy amount to have yours fixed for 300.00 to 500.00 and it might not last after that.......... I'm just a guy that wants a nice looking vette "the way I want it" with time in the car and not a whole lot of money...... I paid 3200.00 for the car and have a total of around 3500.00 in it now............

Photos, yet?

Count me in on the list for how-to, plz... :w

I'm looking into going the electric guage route rather than the digital dash that I have now. (Tach works when it want to, but other wise, does OK!). But I do like dials rather than numbers. If it works I'd like to see how you did it.

Would love to have your input on changing gages over. Just do it

1986 pass. side bump-out

I have an 86 Coupe and wonder if it is easy to remove the Pass. side Dash bump-out that looks like a pad. I would like to put the same Woodgrain Trim without the bump-out in that area like I have in the rest of the interior. Any ideas ?

for JDEN47,

Look in the various outfitters, (id est: Corvette Central, Mid America, etc...) and many of them offer wood grain plates which replace the "loaf of bread" I can't remember but I seem to remember it as less than a c-note. Probably takes an afternoon to install.

The "loaf" was installed on the 84 to 86 maybe 88 models. It seems the heirarchy at GM design had heard something about crash survivability, and head injury prevention in passenger cars supposed to be coming out of DOT. They decided to beat everyone else to the punch and the C-4 was the first to have it on the market two years before the proposed implementation. Needless to say, the idea was rescinded, but the corvette kept it for a couple of more years.

I still have them.....I had to use the plastic benzel that was infront on the guages that mounts to the dash.... I don;t think they work tho...

I did this and it looks great. However, I'd not, again, pay for the 'plate' that goes behind the wood-grain-stick-on. I would now make one, which would be of equal quality, easier to install and one heck of a lot cheaper. The removal is a PITA, but I don't have my manual along on this trip.

I am also interested I hate digital gauges! If they look good I would certainly be up to making this change.

Thanks..................
