I have a scraping noise around the left rear of the car. I thought maybe it was the brake not releasing all the way, so I bought new brakepads and a caliper. I installed it and still had the scraping noise that sounded like the pads were scraping. Bought new rotors, still the same scraping noise. I installed new rear bearings. Still scraping noise. The scraping sound is only when I take off from a stop. I can make the sound stop if I turn my front wheels slightly while driving. I guess it must be the half-shaft, what else is there? When I removed the bearings the half-shafts seemed to be fine, no excessive play.

Has anyone done this job? Am I going to have to drop the rear to get the shafts out or will the shafts just pull out at the housing that holds the rear bearing. Any tip will help. :confused

Is the Master Cylinder original? The manual points to the piston not fully returning or the emergency brake not adjusted correctly.

New Master cylinder. If I apply my foot to the brakes, it will still make the noise.

Wow, excellent slide show. Thank You and to think I was going to take it to someone to do it for me.:_rock :upthumbs

You can take the strut rod off at the outside and not even disturb the camber bolt, you just need someone to pull out on the spindle and the half shaft will come out. Uh, if you see red on those u-joint straps they need changing.
You can change out the u-joints with a big hammer and a couple 2x4 blocks and sockets. It just not as neat as using a vice.
