I did the 52mm TB, miniram, cam, heads, and headers. Compression is a mild 9.6:1.

The readings you mention. Can I do those with my scanner. Are you talking about block learn, etc. etc. numbers?

Yeah I am interested in the MAP readings along with the BLM and Integrator and the RPM..

Thanks

Jeff

My brother in law is in town for a couple of weeks. I will get him to ride shotgun and pull the numbers. My memory play back capacity is not big enough for a long series of numbers at each RPM level.

I assume want the readings at each RPM, and at WOT under a load in closed loop,,, right?

Jeff, you and 69MyWay are out of my league on knowledge. I've never played with fuel injection nor the computer. The rockers I was talking about were the GM Roller Rockers -1.5 ratio-self aligning. I replaced all the studs with ARP ones and adjusted them to 3/4 turn past zero lash + the extra snug to bed in the poly locks well. So far I have had to turn down the fuel pressure as it was around 50+ with the vac disconnected as it was reading 47 psi at idle with the vac hooked up. I set it to 47 with the vac disconnected so it's running 40 at idle with vac hooked up. I am running new stock injectors as I shorted out the originals last fall as there was a short in the system coming thru the fire wall. The local chevy garage where my son works trouble shot the problem and fixed it - it was done by their vette guy. The PROM is the TPIS prom and it was supposedly burned exactly for my set up (ZZ4 crate-no head work/stock injectors/TPIS mini ram II/TPIS ZZ-409 cam/52mm BBK/Gutted MAF/Open Filter lid and TPIS Foam Filter/1.5 Chevy self-align roller rockers/TPIS 1 3/4 coated headers/TPIS cat back system/six speed with 3.33 rear). Yesterday adjusted the TPS to .54 volts as it was set at .515 volts. Drove the car to work 62 miles round trip yesterday and it's now holding a fairly steady idle at about 800 but it's still running some what rich but I'm just babying it til I get some more miles under it before I really get on it.

Actually lets just start at idle.. no WOT.. get the car in Closed loop and just cruise around a bit.. then we will look at WOT

Phil, if you want to get a stock MEMCAL for your 89.. I can take the info from the TPIS and create a PROM for you that will be better at idle.. I will also need either some DIACOM readings or if don't have that I could hook my EASE up to get the reading to help tune the PROM.

Thanks for the offer Jeff - I may take you up on in later in the summer. It's kind of fun working the bugs out of this engine swap especially as I'm just a shade tree mechanic and SLOW.
Unfortunatly this wonderful rainy Sunday isn't helping plus everything else I'm into makes my pure vette play time a lot less than I'd like. Unlike 69MyWay with a wonderful Nicky - my wife prefers quiet cars. Took her for a short spin yesterday and all she said was "I want a lexus SUV". Of course my remake was "I spotted this nice 1950 Dodge Power Wagon SUV, I'll fix you right up". Life can be a blast! :L

After a rainy Sunday and a questionable Monday I finally wheeled the Vette out and drove it to work. Late Sunday PM after reading Grumpyvettes breakin procedure I figured I was ready to really drive the car. I had about 200 miles on the second oil change with regular valvoline but no magnet thing. Changing oil should be easy but my good filter wrench wasn't to be found. It's in the local chevy dealers garage in my kids tool box. The crappy one doesn't work and I couldn't get it to budge after driving a large screwdriver though it so off to Pep Boys. Never had a filter leave the rubber ring in the engine before. It certainly wasn't leaking!
Put in Mobile I and an AC Delco filter as that was all Pep Boys had.
Had a rattle from the exhaust underneath the car and noticed the mufflers needed a tweak for better alignment - so last night I jack the car up crawl under and discover the rubber hanger strap holding the rear Y pipe coming off the cat was ready to go. Made it to Pep Boys just before closing. Found enough stuff to make a reasonable repair that will hold until I remove the system for a a paint job. Whatever black paint they used for the system at TPIS it didn't hold up worth a D____. Car started up first turn and held a nice lumpy idle even though it was only 33 degrees. Ran well on the 32 mile commute through Chicago suburban traffic. It doesn't seem to be running as rich as before but it's been windy and I haven't been able to judge yet but idle is good at 800 sitting at the traffic lights. I'm still not sure how well I like the B&M Riiper shifter - It's positive short throw is nice/way too stiff - maybe a Delrin knob from HardBar. So far seat of pants says torque at idle to 2000 is a bit weaker than old system, 2000 - 3000 feels same, and 3000 plus pulls strong to 6100+. If I want quick tire burning torque at low RPMs I believe I will have to go to
a 3.73 or 4.09 rear from my 3.33. This setup wouldn't work well for an automatic with any of the stock gears. More later - have a great day as it's partially sunny in Chicago.

Wow it's been a month from my last update. Weather has not been good in the Chicago area but I have had the chance to get the outside of the car looking OK with the full court press Zaino treatment and 4 coats. Doubt I'd do that again as I now realize how many defects there are in the paint. 2 coats of Z5 still don't fill in enough but I've got a good base to add to and I don't feel bad driving on the Chicago roads now. Have gotten most issues resolved except some kind of exhaust rattle AND it's running too rich. It feels just like the stock engine did with the cut lid/foam filter/goods plugs and wires/180 thermo/TB center diverter/hyper tech II chip and the TPIS cat back exhaust - EXCEPT at 3000 or so it just keeps pulling and pulling to 6100++. Can't use it around town much and haven't been able to get on the open road so a few runs up to 110 through the deserted forest preserves are all I have. I fixed most of the Ripper Shifter issues with the addition of the Delrin shift knob from Hard Bar. Nice feel and the short shifts are fun. It's a nice balanced package except for the slightly rich running and sometimes no start condition at first crank.

SO -Jeff - where do I get a Memcal. Would it be better to rent a diacom from TPIS for a week or go someplace like Performance Tech here in Elk Grove Village and get a Dynojet run with all the O2 readings OR ????. Need to stop by and say hi some evening after work when weather is nice. I've driven to work last three days which I said I would only do rarely but driving the Vette makes me feel good - makes the whole day better - and is getting my clutch leg in shape.

Phil,

I have EASE Diagnostic software.. so all you need to do is stop by one night (except Wednesday) and we can take some readings. As for the MEMCAL. I can get an adapter or you can order one from here: http://ice.prohosting.com/moates/gmecm/hardware.html

Get the assembled one, this way we can use the TPIS Prom, this piece will go between the TPIS PROM and the ECM. as I said, I have a calibration for an 89 6sd with miniram I think you will like.
Email me for my phone #, and we can set a time
