96 LT1 Oil Pan Removal

Have a 96 CE AT and would like to know the easiest way to remove the oil pan.

Have a 96 CE AT and would like to know the easiest way to remove the oil pan.

1. Drain oil
2. Remove alum flywheel cover
3. Remove starter.
4. Loosen rear muffler support at tail pipes, and support with blanket rolls.
5. Remove 2 sets spring-loaded exhaust "hangers".
6. Remove driver-side catalytic converter. May require you to move the left and right exhaust pipes rearward an inch or two.
7. Remove oil pan bolts, nuts, anti-knock sensor shields, and a few other misc. attachments.
8. Remove oil pan. You should have just enough front clearance between the bottom of the timing cover and the cross-brace to do this, especially if front crank bearings are in horizontal position. Mine were. I lucked out. If they are not then just turn front harmonic balancer/pulley using socket on large bolt that attaches the balancer/pulley to the front of the crank shaft. Don't worry, If you turn the bolt in a clockwise direction all will be okay as this is the direction the engine turns when running.
