I have a dumb question, If I replace my Instrument cluster, gauges, odometer, speedometer...etc, what happens to the Mileage on the Odometer??
just curious

I just replaced my whole dash cluster about a month ago. Now I don't know about your year Vette, but it was easy on mine.....snaps out and in ....easy....The dash came without the miles installed.....:D

I have another question, and I'm not trying to be dishonest, but can you just go out and buy a new (no mileage) odometer and just snap it in????

The mileage is programmed into the CCM, not the instrument panel. The digital readout is generated from the CCM. If the CCM is replaced, it is supposed to be reprogrammed with the correct mileage; if it isn't, a sticker must be affixed to the driver's door jamb stating that the mileage shown is not correct.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what are you talking about????????

:duh Note to self...look at the side bar for year before answering

CCM holds mileage info for newer dash (90 up) so if you change the dash the mileage stored in teh CCM shows on the new trip!

On 84-89 digital dash the odometer is contained in the dash.
