ok so I just got a 92lt1, its alot differant then my 88 l98 was. anyway I every now and then a get a "low oil" light flashing, yet my oil level and pressure is perfect, im assuming its the sensor..how hard is that to change? and also how do I get my front passenger side speaker cover off? its the cover on the floor that has carpet over it, i think one of my speakers blew yesterday because now its all crackly..I just got the car last week and it only has 81k..it has an anfermarket Alpine head unit and the speakers sound amazing so im assumming there not the stock ones, but i need to get that cover off so that I can check. Im not an audio guy at all and i dont want break anything tryina pry it off lol

The speaker cover is a part of the whole door sill. You have to take the whole carpeted door sill cover off.

There is a sensor for low oil, it probably needs to be cleaned and sensor is easy to get to.

Not sure what a 'anfermarket' Alpine is??? :rotfl

Go to Doctordons.com or Factorycarstereo.com, they have instructions for removing the covers.

Mind did the same thing w/ the sensor. Remove the plug, clean the sensor w/ air and clean the terminal. I never had to replace the part.

im assuming its the sensor..how hard is that to change?

Why replace the sensor?

I wonder what would happen if you disconnected the voltage to the sensor? I wonder what would happen if you disconnected the ground to the sensor?

I bet if you did those 2 things, the 'Low Oil' light would come up. And I betcha' if you did those things, and replaced the sensor, the 'Low Oil' light would PROBABLY still be on... That would be my guess, but I'm a guessin' kind of guy tho uh huh...

lol so now im confused, ur implying that its not the sensor but that the connection from the voltage and or the ground is weak which is randomly causing the light to come on? im gonna change her oil this weekend so when i have it drained im gonna mess around with the sensor..Gm has it instock for 50 bucks but if i can get away without buying a new sensor, id rather do that lol

That's a good time while you're under there to disconnect the sensor, put a multimeter on the feed, see if it's getting voltage, and to test the ground lead, to see if it will ground out a voltage source (with a STEADY voltage read), UNLESS the ground for the sensor is integral with the sensor itself, meaning only 1 wire coming TO the connector.

I had a similar problem. Disconnected the connector, sprayed connector and inside receptacle of oil level sending unit and problem cleared up. If you have any oil leakage that creeps in this area it can cause erratic, high resistance which gives the false low oil level indication.

Thanks,
Mike
