I have a '99 C5 that I just changed the harmonic balancer on (power bond 25% underdrive). I had to pull the steering gear, sway bar and associated elements in order to gain access to balancer. Everything went back together smooth, no leaks, everything is connect back up.

What I'm getting now; once I achieve 18+ mph for over 30 secs my DIC displays "active handling warming up" and will not go away. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have no DTC codes. I am at a loss.

Thanks,
Bigfoot99

Hey BigFoot99, welcome to the CAC.

I've heard of the "Active handling warming up" message coming on occasionally- briefly upon startup after a slow turn, but your issue sounds different.

Hopefully someone will come along soon who's had similar symptoms.

Hi, Bigfoot. Welcome to the Corvette Action Center. It's too bad one of your first posts has to involve "issues" with the mechanics of your '99.

It's a common mis-conception among C5 Owners that the "Active Handling Warming Up" message occurs at start-up (or soon thereafter) as part of the vehicle's warm up process. In fact, "Active Handling Warming Up" has nothing to do with the vehicle warming up at all- it's a notation that the Active Handling/Traction Control system is re-calibrating itself after sensing tire slippage on an icy or gravel-covered road. What it's doing is determining based upon current speed, angle of the steer wheel and orientation of the car which way is "straight ahead."

This process should normally take no more than a few seconds before you get the follow up "Active Handling Warm Up Complete." Which brings me to what may be the bad news "issues" I spoke of. If you are getting the "...Warming Up" message consistently once you go above a certain speed, and it does not go away, it sounds to me that with some of the items you had to remove to get to your harmonic balancer, something may not have been hooked up correctly when you put all the items back.

Have you checked to see if you are getting any codes in your DIC? We have a useful "Sticky" thread at the top of the C5 Technical and Performance forum which can help you both find any codes your system may have, and interpret what they mean. Good luck, and let us know what codes you find.

I've checked several times. No codes are coming up. Once I restart it comes back up after going a moderate distance, it does not matter what speed (i've kept it around 15 mph and gotten it there too). I went back through yesterday to make sure everything is hooked up and that nothing is broken. All seems good to go.

Active Handling Question?

I received this message the other day, first time I have seen it. I had just finished driving about 25 miles round trip. The temperature was in the mid 70's Fahrenheit, sunny, dry roads. I stopped to gas up, filled up, and left. I was there maybe five minutes or less. When I was leaving I pulled out having to make about a 75 degree left turn going a bit slow as there is a small dip, (have to watch out for under the front end). When I straightened out and started to give it a bit of gas, not getting on it but just driving normally. This message popped up, "active handling warming up," and before I continued another 200 feet , I received the following, "Active Handling Warm Up Complete." so what gives?

??????????????????????????

What Pseudomind describes is normal. There have been quite a few threads that discuss this. I searched "active handling warming up" and got about ten threads. But what Bigfoot99 describes does not sound like the same (non)issue to me.
