Hi All;
Anyone that has an 80 or 81 Vette... have you restored your vette and in so doing found additional build sheets? I've heard this can happen but all these "occurrences" were third party sources. Has anyone actually found additional ones? I've heard you can find them in the seats, under the dash, in the doors, etc... but I want to hear from first party sources before I go tearing my whole car apart trying to find an additional sheet. My tank sheet is virtually unreadable.
Thanks!

So, to look in the driver's seat I would have to take it apart yes? i don't suppose there is a way to do this without ruining the seat itself is there? See... that is the trouble... the interior of this car isn't really needing resto yet... but I really need to determine once and for all some things on this car and only the build sheet can tell me. Perhaps it will be worth a day of just removing the interior to find out! Thanks GMJunkie!

OK, not an 80 or 81, but a 78. Found it tucked into the rear strut rod bracket held in place by the diff. heat shield. Read another thread a while back where a guy found it there in his 76. Maybe the same St. Louis guy assembled yours. 2 bolts to pull the shield, might be worth a look.

How about getting one of those dealer invoices from GM?

Why not get a new sheet from the museum in Bowling Green?

Yea... just yesterday I tried to order one... but I believe I tried this before and they stated it was unavailable for my VIN. But that was two years ago when I was really doing the heavy investigation on this car so perhaps now they have them available. Lets hope......
Thanks!!

Museum doesn't have the sheets for St. Louis Vettes. Still think you should spend the $50 for the dealer invoice. Gives the color, main thing you're looking for?

Yea, you got it. But if the story is all true (from the research I've done so far) this was a "special order" car specifically by someone in the airforce. So, I don't know if the dealer invoice would readily show that.... perhaps it would but I don't know. I could try... do I order that through the Museum as well?

No, it's handled by Allied Vaughn, a contractor to the GM Media Archives. Call Peggy Vezina at (734) 421-0273, ext. 214, and she can get it handled for you.

I don't think Peggy is involved at all any more. There is a thread that gives the up to date info on ordering it. Don't know how to make it clickable but you can do a search for "Welcome to Peggyv" and it will come up.
Also, no, the dealer invoice does not show who the dealer sold it to. But you never know, someone might remember such a special order.

this is the information i received while trying to get a dealer invoice from peggy. as you can see, she no longer is involved (at least at this time). for the record, it was the best $50 i have spent on my car so far, it really opened up a lot of doors as tot he origin and original equipment on the car at delivery. since mine has had some unauthorized "bubba-izing" over the years, it was particularly healpful to me to get this info. the response time was amazing. even though they claim 10 days to 2 weeks as a guideline, i had a return from them (after faxing back their form) of less than one calendar week. i hope this information will once again help someone out.

just as a follow up, peggy is not available for a bit. seems the auto reply i got said she will be out from march 05 until 12/31/06. yes that's right 06!! the email does refer you back to the general support email address, so i have tried again at that location. i'll let you know how i make out. BTW no heat shields in place any longer, so that's not an option with this 78, lol

thanks though, it is a good suggestion under normal circumstances.

steve

here is the reply i just received from GM archives support. i hope it helps someone else out also. i appreciate all the help to get this far.

Hey Steve
Well, I sent an email to gmma.research@gm.com requesting the invoice but didn't include a credit card number. Was this the appropriate place/email to request it?
Dawn

i have tried to attached a copy of the "application" form that you need to submit to allied to get your dealer invoice, but it is a bit too large (106k instead of 88k). IT IS NOT A BUILD SHEET it is however the exact copy of the original dealer invoice sheet from gm to the dealer showing all the equipment on the car as delivered including the "retail" cost and the dealer cost and the dealer to whom it was delivered. it also shows the date the vehicle was delivered to the dealer. if you leave me an email address i'll send it along to you (it is a word .doc file).

i believe i got it by using the email address of the allied manager captioned in the information i supplied above.

Hey Steve....

I'm still waiting and each day I'm dying!!! How long did it take you to get yours? I haven't heard anything yet... no confirmation or anything. Should I have received something?

dawn

sorry for the late reply, but i was up in alaska for the past 10 days on vacation. have you heard (or received) anything yet?? it took about 1 week for me to get the reply with the info. be careful when you get it it will come in a plain #10 envelope and have a return address that you probably won't recognize. i almost just tossed it out as a piece of junk mail, lol. good thing i decided to open it and see what was in it befoer tossing it out, LMAO!! they won't charge the credit card you supplied until they actually process the invoice copy. if you haven't heard anythng yet, you might want to check with your card company to see if a charge was processed.

good luck
steve
