What types of issues has anyone had after installation of long tube headers?

Is increased engine temperature a concern? I have heard of issues with heat causing problems with spark plug wires and/or other engine components. Just trying to understand potential issues with making this modification.

I am looking at installing Kook's headers and x-pipe on my vette. Also, still trying to decide wether to add a K&N filter, Blackwing, or just purchase a Z06 airbox to replace the stock.

Thanks for your comments...

Most common complaint is the O2 sensors don't get a fast enough feedback and set off DIC codes.
Engine temp. won't be affected, other than in the area around the outside of the headers themselves.
Ceramic coated headers will aleviate some of the problem.

Blackwing or Vararam will probably get you more HP gain at higher speeds than any other filter setup.

I installed SLP headers, cats and x-pipe, I love this set up, I installed the Vararam ram air set up, much better than any other set up, i did a lot of research before doing this, and founf the Vararam gave the most gains, especially now since they make a new air bridge for the set up that has much better flw than stock and relocates the MAF sensor further back for a better reading.

Heat Problem

You will have a problem with heat damaging the plug wires. My suggestion would be to wrap the headers prior to install with heat retardent tape.

The only problem I've had with my headers was installing them. And that wasn't too bad.

Installing Long Tube Headers

I installed dynatech longtube headers with xpipe and cats mated to slp catback. I also installed vararam b2 with new air bridge and couples and throttle body smooth baffle. I found that I hear a lot more valve train noise and ticking than before. Also the 02 sensors are very, very sensitive to the exact location they were placed from the factory. I had to do a complete retune of my car to compensate the the 02 sensors being very slightly off there original location. I also feel more undercar heat and obviously more noise. the performance is definately a big improvement. Also having the predator made it very easy to retune. I had a local miami world class tuner tune my car on the street ( while riding and driving), and even though he brought his own computers with all the ls1edit software etc... in the end he used my predator more than his own equiptment. The car some times may have a slightly erratic idle right when you start it but it clears up quickly. Once you change to ftube headers, it will never be like factory again. Thats not either bad or good. depends how you look at it.
