Re: Tranny

Thanks for the help, Rick. The car in starts in 3rd. I can manually put it in 2nd. I then have to manually shift it into 3rd. No 1st and no OD. I'm going to the tranny man Monday but it would be nice to have a Corvette technician give me a good idea of what could be wrong. Thanks again.

Got to look at my service book here.. This is what is says for that condition..

Condition:
2nd & 3rd gears only OR 1st and 4th Gears only

Inspect Component:
-Possible code 82 1-2 shift solenoid Circut Fault
-Shift Solenoids (379)

For Cause:
-Sediment
-Electrical Connection

Sounds like most possible cause is shift solenoid A is not functioning Thatis the 1-2 Shift solenoid.. gatherd that from reading the trouble shooting info above and looking at the apply chart for the trans..

Could be an elctrical problem such as a break/short in the wiring harnes from PCM to trans, a bad PCM driver (which could happen due to a voltage spike) or just a bad solenoid...

I would probably drop the pan and replace just the shift solenoid A and see what happens its the easiet thing to do at this point.. or I guess you could also hook up a voltmeterto the harness and see if you get voltage whith the engine on manual first or drive.. i would try this before someone says lets pull the trans.. much cheaper then spending 1500$ on a trans job when all you may need is a shift solenoid which is not uncommon because it's just a coil of wire that creates a manetic field..

Hope that helps any let me know if you have more questions.. I'm currently rebuilding my trans..

Tranny is cured!!!

Believe it or not the only thing wrong with my tranny was a blown fuse! Thank God for that. I am still a little leary of 14.5 on the volts but that is acceptable, right? I over charged my battery last week and noticed it had leaked a small amount of battery acid a day or so ago so I guess that is a sign to replace it. Thanks again for all the helpful information.

Glad it was just a fuse.. wonder why it blew.. anyway which fuse was it? I'm not looking at my car so I dunno how many there are or what fuses exist for the trans.. just kinda curious if that fuse only effected the 1-2 solenoid or what..

That is great news.:upthumbs Pull the codes on your Vette´s money sensor. I think it missed your Christmas bonus. :confused Mine would never settle for a blown fuse when it could get the tranny pulled.

The 14.5 volts is correct.

With all of your alternator problems the battery could have been damaged however it is not unusual for a severely discharged battery to boil over when it is rapidly charged. Which is exactly what should have happened when the new alternator was installed. Keep an eye on the electrolyte level. The weak cells will boil off the liquid quickly and leave you stranded without notice.

Better yet, give the Vette a new DieHard for Christmas.

Happy holidays

Diehard

Hey guys. Yeah, it was great news about the fuse. I 'll have to ask my tranny guy which fuse it was. I imagine it blew when I got the high voltage with the last alternator. I was so releived I forgot to ask him!

You bet I will put a new juice box in! I've already seen a small trace of acid on the floor.

Thanks again for all the helpful tips. A Merry Christmas to all.

I'm glad too thats all it was.. just got my trans done I'm very pleased so far I also installed a 2600 stall vigilante converter, Trans Go Shift Kit and a 3.07 diff.. much much quicker..

Speaking of fuses I went to open my panel today and it was cracked across the panel through the hole the nod goes through I'm kinda tickt about that.. but ah well I'll see how much GM wants for one tomarrow!
