Re: Tranny
Condition:
2nd & 3rd gears only OR 1st and 4th Gears only
Inspect Component:
-Possible code 82 1-2 shift solenoid Circut Fault
-Shift Solenoids (379)
For Cause:
-Sediment
-Electrical Connection
Sounds like most possible cause is shift solenoid A is not functioning Thatis the 1-2 Shift solenoid.. gatherd that from reading the trouble shooting info above and looking at the apply chart for the trans..
Could be an elctrical problem such as a break/short in the wiring harnes from PCM to trans, a bad PCM driver (which could happen due to a voltage spike) or just a bad solenoid...
I would probably drop the pan and replace just the shift solenoid A and see what happens its the easiet thing to do at this point.. or I guess you could also hook up a voltmeterto the harness and see if you get voltage whith the engine on manual first or drive.. i would try this before someone says lets pull the trans.. much cheaper then spending 1500$ on a trans job when all you may need is a shift solenoid which is not uncommon because it's just a coil of wire that creates a manetic field..
Hope that helps any let me know if you have more questions.. I'm currently rebuilding my trans..

Got to look at my service book here.. This is what is says for that condition..dabvette said:Thanks for the help, Rick. The car in starts in 3rd. I can manually put it in 2nd. I then have to manually shift it into 3rd. No 1st and no OD. I'm going to the tranny man Monday but it would be nice to have a Corvette technician give me a good idea of what could be wrong. Thanks again.
