Folks,
Can anyone suggest the procedures/steps to take to restore my 1978 aluminum wheels to that almost chrome look that I know they're capable of. Right now they are old, very dull and needs addressing. I'd like to do it myself.

Thanks for any input.

Regards,

Craig

Did a search on wheels (like I should have in the first place) and found some good information.

Sorry for the firedrill...

Thanks,

Craig

Craig,

Not a problem... besides it was kind of fun going back through some of the "Old Stuff" again... here is a really good Thread on this subject I'll toss into the mix for ya ;)

Did mine the hard way..........chemically stripped em out in the yard (now have a big spot that doesn't need to be mowed anymore)......three different compounds and buffs from Eastwood.....about 4 hours each wheel of swet and blood. I'm so cheap! Great looks when done, however, have tried about ten different products to keep it shiny or enhance it and have found nothing that works. Waxes and clear coats either dull the shine or turn the wheels a greyer look that sucks as bad as the old wheels. Haven't tried Zoops yet (spendy), but looks promising. Maybe hit the lottery this week so I can give that a shot. :eyerole

My 78's aluminum wheels own more stock in Never Dull than their CEO does! I haven't found anything that works better than elbow grease. Besides, the military instilled a strong desire in me to polish things - namely boots and brass. And now that most of our brass in anodized and we have these new brown suede like boots that don't need polishing, I still have the desire to polish something so I unleash the fury on my wheels.

I find that giving them a quick going over more often keeps them looking better than spending an entire afternoon on them once a month.

you ain't polished aluminum till you owned a motorcycle. i have two different buffer machines (somewhere in the pile in the garage). four different compounds. and an asundry sort of polishing pastes and liquids. but oh the joys of seeing aluminum shine in the sunlight

Bubba, shinin' on!

I tried some jewelers rouge on my wheels after the other stuff, and OH BOY what a shine! Machine buffing is faster, but there's nothing better than a hand rub afterwards.

Pete.
