Im wondering about the hood clearence on a mid 70s vette ?, I have a 75 with stock hood, and want to use a edelbrock performer air gap manifold (duel plane),not the performer RPM airgap manifold. will I need to get a drop air cleaner?Im installing a ZZ-383 and want to get the most out of a manifold that I can?, any other suggestions about manifolds?, Im looking for low-mid rpm manifolds.. Ill be using a BG-Speed demon carb. 750 vac sec.
will my stock air cleaner still work??
Tks ,n save the Wave..............

I don't know about the hood differences between years, but i'm running a RPM air gap with a 625 demon. With a drop base and 14 X 2.5 in air cleaner, the hood just barley closes.

I'm in the middle of a build using a RPM Airgap and was told by Edelbrock it would not fit under the hood without a drop air cleaner.

They are very helpfull about what will and will not fit under a vette hood, ( they don't like to restock parts) give 'em a call and ask, if they don't know, I'd be very surprised.

No, won't fit without dropped cleaner

I have an RPM Air Gap with a Holley 4150 (750 DP-Man) and used to have a 750 Edelbrock on my new 413 with heavily reworked Edelbrock Performer heads. Either carb seems to result in close to the same height overall.

I have a very high aftermarket "L88 +" type hood which is at least 1" taller than the true L88 style.

With a nominal 2.75-3" x 14" K&N Xtreme assy and a 1" phenolic spacer under the carb the air cleaner nut leaves a mark on the inside of the hood. This cleaner has a substantial drop - but you can still reach the idle mix screws on the Holley and barely the idle adjustment on the Edelbrock.

I wish to change to a 2" spacer for the considerable power increases two engine simulators and a half hundred car rag articles indicate, as well as construct a cold air intake to block engine bay air and only allow air from the windshield opening to feed the carb. I will do this by switching to a shorter K&N type main filter - either they or someone else like a Summit or Jegs house brand make one that is only 1.5-2" - I hope it will be enough.
