I recently purchased a disconnect switch from Mid-America.
What is the proper installation sequence for disconnecting and reconnecting.
Will it harm the on board computer system?
Thanks

HI there,
The disconnect should be installed on the negative side of the terminal battery.
You should always remove the negative side first.
And install it last.

Why? I am curious how this makes any difference. Please educate me about this.

When you remove the positive terminal with the negative connected you have the possibility of shorting the wrench to chassis. For corvettes it is not as likely as with metal cars but it is a good practice to get into.

I am curious. If I remove my battery for the winter, will I lose any of my computer settings?

HI there,
This is due to voltage spikes that can occur when a negative terminal is still attached, and disconnecting or reconnecting the positive cable.
The momentary jump in voltage through wiring, can in some instances ruin drivers and EEprom memory.
Not a good thing.

When you connect or disconnect the battery, it's a good policy to have the key in the "OFF" position.

The electronics on your car do not like the voltage spikes/surges that you create when you disconnect!!

Right on the money as usual. To understand the reasoning behind this, one must understand that the flow of electrons is from the negative terminal TO the positive terminal. Most people think that the electron flow in a (Neg ground) battery powered system is just the opposite.
