Hi all. I was wondering what parts were needed to stop the battery from sliding back and forth in the compartment. As of now when I go around corners I can feel and hear the battery slide from side to side.. not a good thing. I know there are parts out there for the '81 that can stop that.. but some previous owner must have removed them. I did find the "battery hold down clamp" in a box of miscellaneous parts I got when I bought the car, but at the time did not know what it was. I am now looking in Mid America parts catalog and the only other part I see that is needed is the "battery hold down reinforce". Are there any other parts besides these two required to secure the battery? Also, what is the proper installation.. I have no idea how to attach these parts and neither my assembly manual nor my repair manual show how either.. guess it's suppose to be just common sense. Thanks in advance for any help.

22229, I am not familiar with what an 81 uses to hold the battery down, but can't be much diffewrent from my 69. As part of my restoration process, I replaced the threaded bottom part that is riveted to the underside of the battery compartment. I also bought a new battery hold down clamp and bolt. As you suggest, this was not enough to keep the battery from sliding around. I used pieces of high density foam that came with my NOS gas tank to fashion anti-slide pads. I glued pieces together with contact cement and shaped them for each specific side. After everything was bolted down, I pushed them into position and wallah...no more battery movement. The foam material was black, so they are nearly invisible inside my black painted battery compartment.

Hey -Tatortot

There is a metal lip that the bottom of the battery fits under on the front side of the battery, with a similar clip for the aft side with a bolt down through it to hold it in place. I think the bolt head size is 1/2"

If you want I can find the parts in my Assembly Manual and scan it for you ;)

Thanks Bud, that would be great. I have no idea what the pieces look like so I don't know what to order, I believe I have one of the lip clamps you are talking about, but that is it.

Hey Bud I just found this old post of mine, did you ever happen to find those parts in your assembly manual? I have one but cannot find them at all. Still bothers me when the batter slides around back there. Thanks for any help.

Wow thanks for the quick reply Bud!! Looks like I need a whole bunch of parts, only one I have is what looks to be part #1. Thanks again!

TT

Take a real close look in your battery compartment, you may be only missing the hold down clamp bolt for item 1. Most the other parts are bolted or rivetted in place ;)

Bud

Thanks again, will take a look soon!
