Three main reasons for my suspenders.

1: I like them.

2: Half the time when the wife is with me, she doesn't take her purse so she loads up my pockets with "just a few things she needs".

3: By the time I have her 4 lbs of "stuff" (love cargo pants, too), my cell phone, Leatherman and IWB, it's too much for my belt to handle.

And, I'm getting too fat....
