Bench-testing gauges

What bench-testing would you recommend for the 1967 gauges, and how?

Guess I'm a trusting guy, and lazy to boot, but I wouldn't go through that.

It'd probably take you a lot longer to devise and run accurate bench tests than it would to replace one that isn't working after you've built the car. You could ship 'em off to a gauge rebuilder and a speedometer shop for testing (or find another car to try them in) if you really, really need the peace of mind.

Might be easier to spend your time looking for someone good and reasonable to both test and calibrate for you than trying to setup everything you will need to do it yourself. I will have to face this soon myself.

RedEasy to do ,two terminals positve to the one on the right ,ground to the one on the left and the needle should go to full...switch the wires and the gauge will go past "E"
BATTERY - ..........12 volts and it should move

OIL - .....not so easy to do but it can be done -email me I'll let you know

WATER -Not so easy ...takes proper resistance and sending unit...send this one out

SPEEDO - don't waste your time...with out a calibration box you won't get it ...same on Tach

Fuel, Battery, Oil and Water are typically not very accurate so if they work at all they are probably good enough. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. If you want to pursue it, a factory shop manual might have enough specs on the gauges and senders so a friend with a knowledge of basic electronics could cobble something up for you. None of those are particulalry difficult to check. Short vesion, install them and if they appear to work smile and be happy.

Speedometer and tach, find a good speedometer shop and have them check them out. Both can be calibrated but both are beyond the average amateur gauge tweakers knowledge.

One option on the speedometer is to install it and check it by driving with a GPS to compare speed.
